What fabric do you use for your down projects?

I'm looking at starting to build a down under quilt and top quilt. I'm planning on getting the 850+ FP down from Wilderness Logics. I have a few questions about the material you use.

I'm wondering where everyone gets their material from?

What material you use?

If it isn't listed as being down proof, have you had any problems with down leakage?

What about DWR coating?

If the material isn't listed as DWR, did you treat it?

If not, have you had any problems with moisture?

Thanks for your insight into the material that I should use.

I have got my fabric from DIY Gear supply. Scott (sclittlefield here on the forums) has been really helpful answering any questions about his current stock and ships quickly with reasonable prices. I made sure to get fabric that was down proof. You want to stay away from DWR coated fabric at least for the top quilt; you don't want to trap moisture.

I'm sure more will chime in, but I'm sticking with Scott as my primary source.

What material you use? .....M50 or Impetus 1.0

If it isn't listed as being down proof, have you had any problems with down leakage? .....Yes - must say calendared or down-proof. Don't compromise here.

What about DWR coating? ......Almost everything has a DWR, so yes most things I buy will have a DWR

If the material isn't listed as DWR, did you treat it?...I would just buy a DWR treated fabric if you need a DWR. The store bought treatments aren't as effective, durable or long lasting.

If not, have you had any problems with moisture? ...Negative.

Make sure is says "downproof" or "calendared".
For down quilts, I would buy ONLY from reputable outdoor material suppliers like www.diygearsupply.com www.owfinc.com www.thru-hiker.com or www.questoutfitters.com

Does anybody know if 1.1 Nylon, Momentum 50, or Impetus 1.0 (I think that's all the major ones) have any give on the bias? I've been trying to find info on flexible, downproof fabric for a "stretching" UQ, but keep coming up empty. Can these fabric weaves be sheared at all, or do they just crumple like paper?

They have a little stretch in the bias. Just enough to mess up your sewing if you don't concentrate. But it's not "stretch" fabric like lycra, by any means.

I believe it is 64" wide. I used it for 3 quilts...works great.

Cool, that's all I needed to hear! I'm planning to cobble bias-strips into the inner surface of my UQ so it can "stretch" and conform to the hammock under tension. The sil nylon I've used in the past has little to no give, since I suppose its fibers are glued together by the coating.

I used the 64" wide stuff, the 72" should work, though... it says: "1.1oz (30d) Ripstop Nylon. 72″ wide. Calendared. 2nds Quality. LIME GREEN" though LIME green is pretty bright for my tastes... the key here is CALENDARED!

I get the usual stuff from DIY Gear Supply - Olive Green calendared/downproof 2nds for the inner shells and DWR Olive Brown calendared/downproof for the outer shells.
