I'm ok with a drive of 3-5 hours for a weekend trip. Longer if I can extend it to 3 days and a good bit longer if I can work it into 4 days. Like nearly 1900 miles in just short of 4 days. ;) But I like a good road trip. :D
I have options within 1---3 hours of home so it mostly depends on if I am on my own, have someone local to go with or someone from a ways out. Most of the trips I do I am headed to meet up with other hangers from a ways away so we pick cool places to check out rather than the backyard.

I like to keep it under 3 hours, especially if it involves driving in Atlantas wonderful traffic! (timing is everything!) I can be on the Pine mountain trail in 45 min, the Pinhoti trail in 2 hours, the Applachian trail in about 3.5 hours etc. --------lots of options! Kind of depends on the weather, traffic, and weather I want to sit in the car for a couple of extra hours, or spend that time on the trail.:)

I contemplated going, but man, all I can say is I'll never second guess myself again. Perfect weather, met some cool people, enjoyed my Beam and Coke watching the sunset and slept like a baby both nights.

There are a lot of factors for me that affect drive time.
If I'm going to be driving by myself, I really rather not go more than 3 hours
But them the destination factors in. If its a neat place or a good hike, I'll go 5 or 6.
If I've got a driving companion, 5-6 hours easy, maybe 8---especially if there's a good Mexican or BBQ place on the route.
But the the destination factors in. If I have a companion that wants to drive the 10 hours it takes to get from Houston to the Wichita Mountains or Palo Duro Canyon AND we can leave early on a Friday and return late on a Sunday---or better yet, Monday, I'll do that in a heartbeat.

I did over 4 hours one-way last weekend for a one night stay. I thought it was completely worth it.

I've gone as far as WV for a weekend, 8 hr each way but that was in my climbing days. I now try to keep it in the 3-4 hr range but would travel further if the location and event warranted it...
