It’s been a long time coming, but I finally got this video finished off! The trip took place on Saturday and Sunday the 9th and 10th of April. Yes, talk about slow to show. I got stuck early on in the editing process and it took a while to get unstuck (the part with the map).
Anyway...
The trip report is a short kayaking paddle to South Stradbroke Island. An over night stay, camp talk, a walk to the surf beach on Sunday morning, followed by a bit of fun chasing Soldier Crabs around. I hope you enjoy it!

Yes, if anyone asks what you did on the weekend, you can say you went on an arm chair ride to hell and back. A bee keepers bee suit, like what MedicineMan has got, would be a good look for that place.

That was a classic movie, Dirty Harry. A 45 would sort thoughs mozzies out pretty good, not allowed to have fun toys like that here though. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, Resqsarge03! Oh and welcome to you too to the Hammock Forums!

Hi there, Dangme Hangme! A big welcome to you as well! Good to see the Hammock Forums is helping more people see the hammock hanging light – hammocks are great! That guided tour sounds pretty good, you have to give me the name of it. No, I’m just being silly, thanks for watching, Dangme Hangme, and I’m glad you enjoyed it!

It’s been a long time coming that’s for sure! It only got finished now because for some strange computer reason, I couldn’t save the video of the map (near the start) and had to keep the computer switched on until I finished the whole video. Thanks for watching and commenting MAD777, that’s great!

I think I’m developing a negative vibe towards mozzies. Just the sight of the word, buzzz freaks me out a bit. Next time I’ll be taking my brand new electrified tennis racket bug zapper. THEN, a swatting good time will be had, by me anyway, mozzies might not like it much! lol I’m please to hear that you enjoyed the video, ofuros and thanks for commenting!

Your mozzie swatter sounds better than what I plan to use - electrified tennis racket bug zapper.
What kind of kayak was that? In some of the shots it looked to have a fabric skin.

Hi XSrcing,
The kayak is an, Advanced Elements AirFusion Kayak – AE1040
It’s funny you say it looks like it has a cover on it. A while ago, I paddled past some “real” kayakers and one of them said, “Has that got a cover on it?” It’s what’s known as a skin on frame kayak. A vinyl shell on a alloy and inflatable tube frame . It works well, the best thing about it is that it stores well, both at home and in the car. I only paddle 4 or 5 times a year, so storage is pretty important.

Loved the trip report. Mossies sure are a pest. If I had a choose between mossies and leeches, I'll pick the mossies. Both give me a allergic reaction.

Thanks mbiraman! Yeah, empty beaches are great and that one being so wide, made it look even more empty. It’s about time you got out for a paddle in those nice, deep, clean, amazing looking lakes you’ve got around your place.

Hello Mr Shuggerdy Shug, Shug Shug! I hope your tour is going well, AND, I hope you’re planning, for when you get back, to do one of your solo hammock hangs, complete with brekkie from the hammy. Thanks for taking the time to watch and to comment! “Mozzies make me Crabby,” is a very clever bit of word joining!

Life (and cold weather) has been getting in my way too lately, very inconsiderate of it! lol Interestingly, I hope to get out soon as things warm up a bit. It’s been the coldest winter here in 17 years. We should swap countries for 3 mouths of the year, that’s a good idea! lol

Hi there tansey! I didn’t see any, hardly ever do, but there’s supposed to be a fair few out there:
About 16 species of snakes occur on North Stradbroke Island. Species most likely to be encountered include the carpet python (Python spilotes); green tree-snake (Dendralaphis punctulatus); and the red-bellied black snake (Pseudechis porphyriacus). The death adder (Acanthophis antarcticus) is well distributed but is uncommon. Several species of sea snakes also occur. http://people.hws.edu/mitchell/oz/guides/StradInfo.html
A couple of them might be a bit dangerous. The death adder is hard to see, and it don’t get out of the way, which is a bit inconsiderate of it. lol

Wello, I used to windsurf there, nice place! Sterner stuff... You must have missed the bit where I got bitten on the foot by a Soldier Crab, screamed and jumped, then ran away. lol I like to think of myself as the biggest girly man on the Hammock Forums. I think I scream in all of my 9 videos, one time for about a minute. The water was cold that time, there was even a sign that said I could die of shock if I fell in. I’ve been trying to cut back on the screaming since then. Thanks for watching, johmar! It’s good to know that someone else in AU is enjoying the wonderful world of hammock hanging!

Looks like it was a fun hang. Not an huge fan of mosquitoes m'self. We actually have one of those electrified racquets at work. They work, but for that kind of mosquito cloud, well, perhaps a flamethrower might be a better bet.
Not that it would be terribly LNT, though... :scared:

Now that’s a good idea, a lighter and a can of fly spray. Hold the lit lighter in front of the spraying fly spray and it will be raining charcoaled mozzies. Yeah, that sounds like the go!
Watching your trip report has got me thinking about doing a rail trail bike ride – it’s on the short list. Thanks for the two great ideas, FLRider!

See if you can find a place where you can hire a kayak or canoe. Interestingly, I got into hammocking, because I wanted to do some light weight road bike touring. So, having all ready got 3 mountain bikes, I rushed out and bought a flat bar road bike, searched around for light weight, compact camping gear and came across the Hammock Forums. After doing some reading and watching, I ended up doing much more hiking than bike touring.

Well, well, well, well, well, I didn’t know that, and you bet ya I’ll be giving it a try! Stay tuned to see how well they work here! VERY exciting! Thanks for that bit of highly valuable info, XSrcing, Hammock Forums is great!
Another great video trip report, Brucie! Thanks! I love you, dude, but you just ain't right! Which, I guess, supremely qualifies you here as a member! :D
Have you ever eaten any of those crabs? Could be tasty!
I need to find out what. Ideo editing software you are using - especially the map section! That was very cool!
Thanks again!

Actually, I think you’ll find that all the people here at Hammock Forums are perfectly ok, it’s the rest to the world that’s a bit odd. Proof of this is tent dwellers. Having said that, there may be just a little question mark over the head of Mr Shug.
No, I haven’t eaten any of those craps, poor little craps, they’re too cool to eat! I googled it and it doesn't look like anyone else eats them either, which is a bit of a surprise, I suppose.
Now...
The editing program I use is called PowerDirector 10 (costs $$$):
How I did the map section was to first take a screen shot of Google Earth by pressing the Print Screen button on the keyboard. Then I opened the Windows 7 paint program, called Paint. Pasted the Google Earth image into Paint, cropped it to get rid of everything but the satellite image. Then I made the image as big as it would go on the computer screen and used a FREE program called, CamStudio to record me drawing on the satellite image.
I used the mic and audio recorder I use when doing normal videoing, out on the trail, to do the voice part. The CamStudio program does have an audio recording thing in it, but I wanted the sound to sound the same as the rest of the video.
I then opened both the video and audio files in PowerDirector 10, cropped it again to get rid of the buttons that can be seen in the Paint program, synced up the audio with the video and that was that.
