I might be able to be persuaded to attend. just relocated to Indiana from TX.
I spoke with Mule recently. I think he is posting tentative details soon.
I'm interested if my calendar cooperates. What month is it typically held?
Its usually close to April 15. Looking forward to it.
I'm hoping this will fit into my schedule...
Yeah I plan on being there this year.
My family is working hard to pull together enough gear to do some serious hanging this year. Group hangs are high on my list of goals. I've been following along with the trip reports from previous years and would love to participate this time around.
I was just thinking about this the other day myself! Thanks for asking the question Jerry.
Sounds like fun! Hope it goes through a Sunday, can't usually get off on a Saturday...
Looks like tax weekend will be April 12 thru the 14th, and of course some come on Thursday before. Now,
Would you like to keep it in Brown Hollow and Browning Hill or would you like something new? I wish I could do a pole here but it's too late. The place I am thinking of is the hike to Panther Branch.
Parking is always an issue, so we would park at Crooked Creek Lake and also at the trailhead 1 mile beyond the lake. Whenever the trailhead parking lot gets full we could then start using the Crooked Creek Lake for parking. Lots of room there, BUT, those parking at the lake would be either:
1. Walking up the road to the trailhead which is the Tecumseh trail, well marked to Panther Creek, or
2. head up the trail from the launch at the lake to Miller Ridge and then make it to Panther Branch/Creek from there. I think it would be an extra couple of miles that way and no marked trails.
Please express your sentiments, complaints, irritations and reservations!!!

See if this helps, and I will try to find a topo too if you all are interested.
I hope this helps too. Of course we could just go to brown hollow again too.
Nashville to cc lake roadmap
The Panther Branch and Creek are beautiful for the whole mile starting at the end of the Tecumseh to the lake. But one hard hike over the next ridge and you are in Hayes Branch with a similar creed if we wanted to go there the next day. The trails are not marked well from panther creek to hayes creek but it's just a ridge over.
Panther Creek marks the end of the Tecumseh Trail for the time being.
And again, I have no problem going back to Brown Hollow and Browning Hill either. I never get tired of them.
Here are some photos and along with it it one of the last pencil drawings I have been working on, just to show off a bit.
is this more of a backpacking event or hike in to the chosen place and hang for the weekend?
We usually hike a couple miles in and camp then if everyone wants to stay we stay or if everyone wants to move on to the next site, a couple of miles further then we do. It's a group decision, but the hiking is not hard. If it is rainy like it has been the last two years we stayed in Brown Hollow, but if it's nice weather, we probably will choose to move in the morning.
Oh I'm fine with either, just need to know what to prepare for.
photos two weeks ago
I wouldn't mind trying something new, I have never been to panther branch before. I won't complain either way. I am just happy it worked out to be on a weekend that I can make in April.
Thanks for taking point, Mule.
I'm OK with whatever the majority wants to do. Unless it's really stormy, I'd like to keep moving. Otherwise, it would be nice to have day-hike opportunities. I'm planning on arriving Friday morning, wherever we end up.
I need some volunteers to hike to Panther Creek and Hayes Branch to mark the trail to Hayes Branch. Anyone who has some time I could meet you at Crooked Creek Lake one of these weekends. Then we would drive from there to the trailhead at the Tecumseh trail to begin. By doing this we could decide whether or not parking at CC Lake and walking the road would be feasible and agreeable. I wish there was more room for parking at the trailhead. If we go to Hayes Branch on the second night , we will be hiking back the same route back passing again panther creek camp. Meeting at Panther branch first would be good due to the trail being so well marked from the parking lot on the Tecumseh. But that would mean walking 1/2 to 1 mile on the road from Crooked Creek Lake to the trailhead.
We COULD park on the road at the trailhead too, as long as everyone parked on one side only.
I'm ready..... Picked up a couple of goodies this winter and anxious to try them out. Come on April !
Mule Give me a call, and a date, if it is a 1 nighter, I can make it happen. We can scout around, and pack light....
Bonsihiker....I hope you and I can share a fire together this time. Seems like every time we are passing more than meeting.
I'm with Scott, if its raining, I would prefer to stay in one spot....but I will migrate with the majority.....

I Plan on being there
As things appear now, I should be able to make it. It would be nice to try something new. If I get time to drive down and hike that area, I'll send you an email Mule. I've spent a lot of time in the Yellowwood SF area.
Hangers,
I need to pencil this on my calendar ... April 12-14?
Mule, please confirm the date? And thanks for stepping up Mister Marine.
Hike anywhere, short or long is fine with me ... especially since my pack will weigh about 15 pounds for the weekend ...

HEY, I'M OFF THAT WEEKEND!!!!
FINALLY! :D
Got it in my calendar.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Never call him Mr. Marine.....
his head will swell...
LOL
:lol::lol::lol:
I almost have the wife convinced to let me go play in the woods that weekend. It will ultimately depend on where we go. Please keep us posted and count me in for tentative attendance. Thanks.
Looks I'm sitting this one out. I'll be in Cincinnati the weekend of the 13th.
Hangers,
I perused thru the Hoosier Hang thread and didn't see where a date and place has been confirmed.
I know April is a month away, but could we confirm a date and place?
Will there be a raffle?
I also noticed Mule sharing websites for the Tecumseh Trail earlier. Since this is the Trail I always go to when in Southern Indiana, I thought you might enjoy a free Tecumseh Trail guide.

Scroll down to just above the "beaver downed tree" photo and you will see "HHC Tecumseh Trail Guide" download. This is the best free printable TT I've found.
Looking forward to "above freezing" weather ...

Count me in on the scouting trip just set a date and I should be able to make it.
I'll be there! Looking forward to it! On the calendar.
I'm in-ish. Just leave breadcrumbs for me to follow.
I'm definitely in! The boss will get over it! :)
Thinking! Thinking!,,,will have to keep ya's posted as we get closer to this. ;) Mule,,Jerry,,when you thinking of doing a scouting trip? PM me if you want. and what you need in tools or anything.
I'll talk to mule Tuesday, it's gotta be fast. I'm doing the KT in 3 weeks...
Mule, I was planning on hiking no matter what. The wife wants to come along again too. I'm up for someplace new or old. I'll definitely be there Fri - Sun., but will try to fit in a Thur. also. Im no help this year as I'm graduating and have the senior project going on, so I've been out of service for a bit...
Note: I can probably do an over-nighter (Fri-Sat) hike to set flags out, just let me know a week before (my gear is already packed). I'll be at the Deam Wilderness the week after this one for a break-in of a new and improved hammock, but could make changes if needed.
Just got a job that requires I work a lot of weekends. Not sure I'll be able to make it.
yes that's confirmed dave. Do you want me to put an extra hammock in my pack for ya just in case LOL
Mule "the" Marine,
Extra hammock? Haaaaaaaaaaaaa You Funeeeeeeeeeee
Mule pack MORE weight? Haaaaaaaaaa You Fun to hike behind
Hey, NO more hammocks failing ... Been there, done that ! :D
Besides that 24" hammock you got in and rippppppppp'it in two are no more. :scared:
Failing Bridge hammocks? Been there and done that. Trying to engineer a light bridge. NO can do. Besides, the sailboat sail material (Polyester, not nylon) I found hardly stretches at all. Thus, yo' hammock lay is nearly a flat as a "bridge" hammock. www.dplightweightbackpackinggear.com
Plus, that Bridge that failed was on the Hill. (Browning Hill) And you know me and the Hill. Being haunted, it has nearly ALWAYS done something to me out of the ordinary. Yup, I'm ready to hit the Hill again just to see what she throws at me ... again.
So ... Mule pack MORE? Hey, good buddy, I wouldn't wish that on your back for anything. Besides, my 15 pounder is tried and proven now. WAY reliable while I "skip" along watching, uhhhhhhhhhh you know, slap those hoofs deep into the mud ... :(
AND, Thanks for confirming April 12-14. Hey, thinking of Lucky 13th ... How about Browning Hill that nite? I figure hanging on the Hill the 13th, why, why, who knows what might happen. Maybe the aliens might return, maybe the Indians crawl out from under those massive "blocks"? Maybe all the Hill snakes crawl out of the cistern? Maybe the Hill pond frogs turn into ... Maybe ... Maybe ...? :scared:
Remember the "blood orange" full moon rising on the "HILL"? :scared:
Hey everyone, Is a noob to the site welcomed. I should be free that weekend. Would love some first hand knowledge from y'all. Check out setups and figure out my next step to make the hammock even better.
