My wife is going to Chile for a week with her sister - which means i get a week to do whatever i want.
The questions are:
1) Who plans do attend Trail Days?
2) If you are going to attend - are you interested in a hike/hang before or after?
Discuss...

I think we might entertain the idea of hiking in for a couple of days. I can go see where I saw a tree fall one morning.
I'll be there - it's on the calendar. I was thinking about hiking after Trail Days, but I could change those plans. I hear a lot of people like to hike to Trail Days, so thats why I was thinking after Trail Days.
Trout - I could do before or after - makes no difference to me.
Before or after dosen't matter for us either. What direction are you thinking?
I'm planning on being there again this year and am planning a hike in that will get me there on Thursday. Not sure where I'm going to start, but I'm really liking the idea of parking a car in Damascus and hiking back in. :D
Me and a friend will be hiking in from US19E to Damascus. Northbound
I'll hopefully be living a lot closer to Cannibal by the time trail days rolls around - don't know if we'll be up for the trip back to the right coast. I'd love to make a trail days, though - sounds like a blast.
If you want to write the hang/backpacking in stone, let's do it! After preferably. :) I'd be driving there in a van, so we could park on both ends and afterwards pickup the other vehicle.
It seems it's always the weekend closest to my anniversary, May 15th (17 years this year), and I can't ever talk my wife into going there for an anniversary trip. Will miss it AGAIN.
Just pick a better date and do one of those renewal of vows things. Then you can have a whole new anniversary and phase-out the old one. Course, this is coming from a almost 40 year old who has never been married. So there's that. :rolleyes::laugh:Quote:

Unfortunately, that's my graduation weekend (and you've got to be nuts thinking I'd miss senior week;) ), so I won't be able to make it this year. But to anyone on the fence, it is a fantastic time and a great chance to meet HF'ers, WB'ers and the like!

Yup, you're welcome to join me anytime. I haven't planned that one out yet, but would like to make it a 3 day hike into Damascus if I can get the time off for it. Might I suggest doing Hardcore for two days after traildays. A great way to help the trail & meet some great people, like Bob Peoples The "Slave driver in charge". :D
Sign up at the ATC tent on Sat, then meet there AM on Sunday. I suggest getting / bringing a decent pair of work gloves, just in case. :)
...and hand warmers, and freezing rain gear, and band-aids, and an AED, and, and, and. That guy will work you right into your grave and giggle about it! I don't suggest this for anybody that is in the process of a thru. You'll need some recovery time. But, an excellent idea for those just visiting. Just be prepared to work HARD.Quote:

If you can get anywhere along the AT corridor you'll find gaggles of hikers heading in that direction. There's a pretty good ride board that develops on whiteblaze every year too. That site is still useful for a few things...

Hawk-eye- I promise I will be safe. More than likely the majority of travelers will be dirty hippies, and at that point, my smell will be the scariest of things. Nobody will want to get close enough to strangle me, at least thats what I'm hoping :scared:

June 1st, or very near then, is when I switched out the staples of my cold weather gear. I had switched over a few items earlier so that Genuine Draft could use them as she is a much colder sleeper than I, but the basics stayed with me till June. Even then, I had a terribly cold and wet night sometime in July. Just a fluke in the weather, but there will be plenty of cold nights into May and even June. They will make it feel much warmer than it will be when you start climbing again.
Basically, carry it about a month longer than you think you should. ;)
BTW, don't maildrop into Fontana; there is no need. If you're going to go over to the lodge area to get your maildrop anyway, you might as well just use their store. It is much better supplied than it was when Jack wrote that article. Very easy to resupply through Gatlinburg or Curtis' place (can't remember the name right now) on the other side of the Smokies.
Standing Bear Farm. Curtis has a decent little resupply there to easily hold you over to Hot Springs.Quote:
