Another Ridge Line question

ok so I was blessed enough to have a member send this to me about a year ago. I have just been so busy that it has just sat, sad I know. Heres my problem, I have no idea how to use it. I know what it is but how to set it up is beyond me. I tried to day thinking it was going to be easy but its huge and that threw me for a loop. Its 6 arms length and I'm 6'1 so the theory is that this would be 483 inches but no I did not measure it. One end is a whoopie sling and that confused me as well.So any pointers...

The theory that I always heard is that your arms length from finger tip to finger tip will be about the same as your height.

the length of it suggests a tarp rl... use the prusiks to attach the tarp, the figure-9 to attach to a tree, the whoopie, to tighten...

its 40' long?! if your trees are 6 paces apart, roughly 20', this is far enough to get across that length and around some pretty hefty trees and back almost to center. maybe its a double ridgeline. i'm confused too unless they just gave you a ton of extra line. i see you use a double eno. my other suggestion was maybe you had a jungle bridge which i've seen some that use a double ridgeline to hold up the wide top.

Yeah, it is really long,lol. Jungle bridge? Never heard of one but I'll check that out.

I see three prusiks and a Figure 9 (probably attached by a prusik), but I don't see a whoopie in that pic. Here's what I think you have in your hands there:

1. Two orange prusiks would attach the tarp to the ridgeline.
2. The Figure 9 would be used to attach to one tree. This is your most adjustable end of the ridgeline.
3. The other prusik? I think that you swing the line around the tree, run it through the prusik, and tie a double half-hitch or something on the prusik. You can then slide the prusik to increase ridgeline tension.

If there is a whoopie in that ridgeline, then it probably attaches to the prusik that isn't supporting the tarp, so you can adjust further. However, don't expect the whoopie to give you the tension required on a tarp ridgeline. Most folks discourage the use of whoopies on tarp ridgelines. I've tried whoopies for tarp ridgelines and they don't work too well for getting the kind of tension you want. The Figure 9 or the prusik will be where you get the tension you need.

I don't see anything particularly strange about a 40' length. I made mine maybe 30 ft. long and wish it was longer. In fact, I'm thinking of extending it another 10 ft.
