North GA Hang January 4-5-6th
OK all, I have three days off in a row in January and trying to plan a Hang somewhere. Working retail, getting 3 days off is a rarity but as usual they do not happen on a weekend. So I am looking to go back up to the Chattooga River area again (that sure was beautiful) or do a Hang on Noontootla Creek outside of Elijay. Noontootla is in the National Forest and has many great camping sites right on the river and you can drive right to them. No hiking necessary. (For those of you that know me, Hiking and I are still trying to get acquainted). Is anyone else off during the week that would like to join me?
Now realize the weather can get really bad that time of year and I am not going up to hang if it is really miserable. I do not mind some cold but really do not look forward to it if they are predicting temps in the single digits.
So if you are flexible and want to join me, lets pick a spot and go.
Paddle faster! I hear banjo music!!!
I am certainly interested. I remember a post welcoming a new GA hanger a few weeks back where a bunch of people mentioned wanting to do a north Ga hang so maybe they will join in. I was planning to try a new area up near Crandall recommended to me by a coworker who happens to be a scout master, but I'd be up for switching to the Chattoogah. It's a beautiful area, and I know some of it rather well.
How far in are you looking to hike? There's a great "beach" spot about a mile upstream from the trail head and another large area near the East Fork bridge about another half mile past that. A previous group hang used both of those spots. I know there are plenty of places past those too, but I'm a bit fuzzy on where exactly they are.
