Just saying hi to introduce myself. Love to camp and hike, but has never used a hammock. Trying to find out if it is something I might like.

Not many people try them and don't like them... There ars a few hang coming up in the next few weeks texoma is next weekend and lost maples middle of January... Come out and lay in someone's and figure out if you like it...
I'm from south Texas btw and welcome...
Welcome! Many people try them and get hooked for at least a sunny afternoon after mowing the yard. You might try an inexpensive one to start with and read up on the proper way to get a good "sag" for a diagonal lay. There are some, like the Grand Trunk, which are under $20 to start.
Cool. Hello from the DFW area. We are having a hike/hang at the end of the month. That would be a great opportunity to check out some others gear and get an idea of what's available. Lots of info here.
Welcome from Denver!
Welcome from SC. Lots of good info. here.
Welcome to the forum, from Ohio. Start out by just whipping a crinkle taffeta tablecloth together. https://www.tableclothsfactory.com/ A quick search here on the forum will show you that many of us have been using them for almost a year now. Good luck and most importantly have fun with it.
Welcome, Haven from Big Spring Texas. Have fun!

Hi and Welcome,
Look at purchasing a book, "The Ultimate Hang" CLICK THIS
You don't say where you live in this vast state, but hooking up with someone nearby and trying their gear, helps a ton.
Check out all of Shug's YOUTUBE video's. Entertaining and very informative and great for all us "visual" learners. CLICK THIS for Shugs channel (be prepared to spend hours and hours watching his circus antics (riding a unicycle into his hammock) and learning from his hammock gear videos).
Then, build a cheat-sheet/spreadsheet of prices for hammocks, top quilts (TQ), Under quilts (UQ), suspensions and such. then watch this places 'for sale' like a hawk. You will know a good deal when you see it and can be the hawk, swooping in for good used gear at great prices. Both my TQ, both my UQ, my hammock and one tarp, were all purchased that way.

+1 on the book, and for sure watch the videos. Welcome from Memphis, TX. If you get into this like I did, the best way is to get with others at a group hang.
Welcome to HF from Mass.
Oh you'll LOVE it.
Welcome from Austin :D
Welcome Backpackhaven! Lots of hammock hangers in Texas. You may want to check out one of the local gatherings to see what it is all about.
