First Post: Is Warbonnet For Me?

Newbie here, but no newbie to hams. I lived in Thailand for 3 years in a hammock so I know what I like and don't like. However, after returning back to the states I have noticed my ol' jungle hammy won't cut it here in the Apps. Warbonnet has my attention, specifically the ridgerunner.

I am worried after using an in-gather for so long I won't like the bridge style, even though it seems more appealing. I am not a fan of the Blackbird, since it uses tie outs on the sides much like a HH i once tried. I have also tried a Clark NX with the hoop rings, very nice but too pricey for me.

I crunched the numbers with Warbonnet, about 50 oz or 3lbs for hammock w/ integrel bug net, tarp and under quilt. That is how much a Clark NX weighs with no tarp or under quilt. I even looked at going simple again with ENO. But if you add up the weight of hammock, bug net, straps, tarp etc...very heavy compared to Warbonnet.

So is Warbonnet the way to go for me? They seem fairly popular on this forum and a good alternative to HH and Clark. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

So much of this is subjective -- how a particular hammock feels to you as you lie in it -- that it may be very helpful to try out someone's BB or RR (and other) hammock.

Do you live near where others' have these hammocks? Is there a local or near-local hammock group hang scheduled that you can get to, to try some out?

If it helps any...Warbonnet has a 60 day return policy if you don't like it.

I think it's a tough combo to beat. The RR is extremely comfortable. The fit of the Lynx UQ on it is unreal. Set it and truly forget it. No drafts to fiddle with. There's certanly lighter and smaller setups out there, but I can highly recommend a Warbonnet RR setup. Go for it - you won't be sorry. And, if in some odd chance it's not for you, the resale value here of that setup is very high.

While the BB has tie outs, you do not have to use them. I rarely bother using the tie outs these days.

With that in mind, how well does the netting stay off your face?

What I like about the Blackbird is that the netting is well off the face. A big plus for me. I have the Ridgerunner but have not had a lot of time to mess with it yet.

Well made,,,almost like a work of art. Jsonn where ever you live there is surely a hang close by for you to visit and check out some gear that others are hanging with. Every member here will let you try it and darn sure will explain anything and everything to you. Lots of hangs from now thru early summer happening in all parts of the country.

The quality level in the warbonnet product line is well know,it makes resale easy. You can get a lot of use out of a ridge runner,I enjoy mine alot.

Noone can guarantee your happiness with a set up but what I can guarantee is if you decide you do not like your choice you can easily sell the WB's at almost the original purchase price. I have several WB's so I drink the kool-aid that Brandon dishes out but I only have experience with a few other brands......one thing for sure is that you will be out very little $$$ should you decide to try another hammock....WB or otherwise.
