That looks like it was an awesome trip. I have been dreaming about a trip like that with my hammock. Welcome to the forums!
BER, I like your pictures, very descriptive especially enjoyed the reflection in the sunglasses. Now I really want to go back. Ice out is something to look forward to. The sand beach was on Lac La Croix just North of Irving Island on the Canadian side Next to the pictographs. They were even more intersting than the pictographs on lower Basswood falls.
May, just after ice out is wonderfully quiet. Even fewer canoes than usual. Our May 2008 trip was 5 days after ice out (we were glued to the websites the week before our trip willing the ice to disappear). Temps were still pretty chilly though and, at least for us that year, the fishing was poor. It was the first time I have been up to the boundary waters/quetico in nearly 20 years of going where we were beset with snow. Sad that this year we will not make it up there in for our usual May trip. (Going to Alaska instead!:D). Next BWCA trip: September...
Welcome there canoedad ... Great place to hang....
