golden state park is a no-go
golden state park is a no-go
Brandon - I assume you talked to them and they said no to the hammocks?
We need to pick a location ASAP and edit the first post to reflect that. And we need to call whatever place and get the OK if it's a campground. At bare minimum it sounds like some of the spouses would like to have some pit toilets, so if we can talk to rangers and ask if the toilets are locked that would be hugely helpful.
Well its bad news. I just called the Golden Gate Canyon State Park (303) 582-3707 and asked about using hammocks in the park and it is a NO GO. The lady said that there can be nothing attached to trees in the state park. So we need to find another place to do this. I haven't been here a long time so I am not super familiar with a lot of areas here so I am not much help with this part of it.
You guys are quicker on the draw than I am and already answered. Sorry.

So what type of campgrounds or forests, do and do not allow hammocks? So state parks are no, correct? National forest, yes, I assume? Anything else to look for?
National forest campgrounds have been the bulk of what we've used. They seem to work well, and even when the campgrounds are technically closed, you can often call the appropriate ranger district and get the OK.
Burning Bear was a quite-nice campground, and if we can get the OK to use it again, I lean towards just going with that one. I am still at work for a few more hours, but if someone can call the rangers and ask if it's OK, and possibly if the pit toilets could be unlocked, that would be awesome.
I just went to the USDA website for Burning Bear and saw this. Does it matter??Quote:
The following restrictions apply to this campground:
Maximum 8 persons per site, 2 tents and 2 vehicles or 1 recreation vehicle (RV).
Only licensed vehicles can operate inside campground.
No discharge of firearms or fireworks.
Dogs must be leashed at all times.
Camping is NOT ALLOWED behind a LOCKED GATE.
Yes and no.
I have used this campground many times doing winter testing and we have had one winter hang event there as well. All of this took place behind the locked gate. However, contacting the Park Ranger Station will generally give you all the permission you need. They have never given me a hard time about it, just reminded me that I still needed to make my payment at the self-pay station. They're pretty relaxed about stuff when they know what's going on.
Has anybody made contact yet? I should be able to do so around lunchtime today if nobody else posts back here first.
I plan on attending also.
