What is everybodies favorite top quilt
The only ones I've ever had are ones I made myself. I took inspriation from Ray Jardine's design and made it myself. It weighs in right at 16 oz. and keeps me toasty warm.
I have a few favorites -- what a tough question!
* I like the HammockGear.com Burrow, especially the center draw string concept.
* JRB's No Snivvler series is great. Both the Burrow and No Snivvler have a nice draw-string foot box. I like the JRB quilt because it can do double-duty as an insulated jacket with its head slit. Very cool.
* I'm currently testing the Exped Dreamwalker 650. While not technically a hammock-specific top quilt, it does triple duty as a wearable quilt (like JRB), 360° protection with a hood, and can also be used as a pea pod/pull-over bag with enough room for a diagonal lay.
I haven't tried all the quilts, so I don't want to be too biased. My gut tells me that they are all good, probably because they almost all follow the same basic pattern: no zipper, no hood, no back, and a foot box. Some have a finished foot box while others allow you to open the quilt up completely. I think for most people it will boil down to cost and customer service, unless you want to wear your quilt, and then there are fewer options out there.
JRB No Sniveler (Jacks R Better) for the cold weather (45F-). The versatility to use it as a TQ, UQ or wear it as a serape had me sold. I prefer gear with multiple use ability. The coziness of down in cold weather is nice. :)
LHBR double layer IX TQ (tttrailgear) for warmer weather (45F+). Lightweight, and doesn't absorb my sweat/moisture on multi-day hikes.
My JRB stealth, for the reasons others listed especially the slit to use it as camp insulation for those chilly mornings.
+1 for the HG burrow! This is the first TQ I've owned(just used a sleeping bag before) but I can't imagine any better!
I like my Burrow and the one I made for summer. But I've seen the Underground quilts and I'm tempted to add another.
My DIY Climashield :)
Warbonnet Mambas for summer/spring/fall and JRB Rocky Mountain Sniviler for the cold trips.
I use a JRB Hudson River for +30F and above and the Old Rag Mountain when below +30F.
I have a Te-Wa 20 degree top quilt that's been awesome and soon to have an Enlightened Equipment 0 degree quilt.
i have all of the JRB wearable quilts. great dual use when combined with a packa
Everybody loves the Hammock Gear Burrow...some just don't know it yet. There are a few that don't like it but they are wrong thinking, hard headed, pack sniffers. ;)
A simple cut and paste with one edit!:D
I only just bought my first one so of course, it's my favorite. However, while I lack any depth of experience regarding various TQ's, I can say it's amazing how much more comfortable using a TQ is from a blanket, full sleeping bags, etc.. I just bought the AHE Owyhee and what a difference it makes! Great Price and just had it down to 20 F and was quite comfy.
I have three Speer Top Blankets. At 42" they are narrower than most. When you use them in conjunction with a Snugfit, they are perfect. I sometimes use a second Top Blanket to supplement a UQ or a PeaPod.

golite ultra 20. love this quilt perfect size and very comfortable.
My one and only TQ that I have was made buy Bloomgorge It's a 3 season tq with about 750 down fill. I have had this TQ in 15 degree weather with about 15 + winds and I was warm as a bug in a rug..:D
Holy cow! Shug lives in a normal house with carpet and TV's and stuff?
All this time, I thought he lived in a garage or in the backyard of his "wifes" house! :)
Stay on topic...
When I was trying to decide what top quilt to get, I ended up settling on JRB Sierra Sniveller. The other ones I considered were ones by Nunatak, Golite (I bought and sold that one off.). Hammockgear was barely getting going at the time (if I remember right) and wasn't on my radar.
I went with the JRB quilt because of it's shoulder width making it a good quilt for ground sleeping if necessary. I've never used the head hole, and probably never will, but it's worked great for over 150 nights. I've never had a problem with it. I give it the full Guy Smiley endorsement.
I ruled out the Nunatak quilt because it's about $150 less for only 1 oz. more in weight. I didn't like the Golite quilt.
