Looking for a neck knife or other reasonable fixed blade no more than $30 -ish. I may just pop over to amazon and pick up a Mora, but I thought I would start here to see if there is anyone ready to part with a used blade. Thanks.

Mora's are a good knife. Keep in mind that the sheath is very cheap plastic sleeve so you'll want to get a proper neck sheath which will probably cost you more than the knife. Have a look at the BK 14,,,i think it comes with a neck sheath,,not sure of the exact price.
bill
Boker Grasshopper is a nice option. Priced right at your mark too! :D
Thanks Bill. I'll give it a look. I want it for general around camp use, but also to process some wood for my junky little DIY woodgas stove.
Thanks Cannibal. It is priced right, but a wee bit tiny.
Thanks OG, you may have helped push me over the edge on this one. $37 shipped with sheath is pretty awesome.
My vote goes to the BK 14. Mine can be seen here. It comes with enough paracord to wrap the handle, make a lanyard and a necklace for the sheath. I got mine off of amazon for around 38$ with free shipping.
+1 on the Mora's
+1 on the Mora. I made a deerhide cover for the plastic Mora cover. I'm attaching a photo. I wear this knife under my shirt every day, whether hiking or working. I only take it off to fly commercially.
+1 on the Mora. Bens Backwoods has them and some nice leather neck sheaths, reasonable prices $10 or so on knives and sheaths for $20 or so
Mora makes great knifes you can also look at the bk11 little more money but great knife
Folts minimalist all day !
Hands down my favorite neck knife !
+1 Mora. I picked up a few at Bensbackwoods. Risk turned me on to them and I'm now a fan. Cheap, Sharp, Sturdy. The stainless steel Mora didn't hold up as well as I would have liked. So go with Carbon but keep it dry!
Here is a like to an x-ray showing the tangs in the different knifes.

I linked your link into the "cutlery" subforum here at HF. Thanks for the intel, very cool!:thumbup1:
Maybe check out the PIF thread when your post count is up enough and pick up a Donating Member Status so you can check it out (or just buy the status, I suppose:rolleyes:)
I like my Mora companion. I had Jason from TN, a member here on the forum, make me a kydex sheath to turn it into a neck knife. I think it cost about $19 for the sheath. Here is a link to a picture of the sheath.
Oops, now here is the link: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=62704
Check out the Bear Claw neck knives by CRKT. Please loop it though your belt and NOT around your neck. Ever wonder what happen if you get it hooked on something? If you really want it around your neck get a dog tag chain, they break before your neck does.
I said neck knife, but I guess I'm looking for something to lash to my pack strap. These are all great. The Becker is pulling into the lead. Thanks for weighing in everyone.
Lashing to the pack, you cannot go wrong with the Mora's either.
i carry an esee izula for a necker, but i do have to say +10 on the carbon steel mora! i have many knives that are much more expensive and one of my mora's is always in my kit. they are cheap, light, razor sharp, and dont let the price fool you, they are a great knife. i just wish i would have discovered mora's earlier on in my knife buying:lol:
+1 Mora w/ cobra braid lanyard, part of the 5C's.
look I am a huge enthusiast in knives and old weapons... I do not own many... But I came across this old Shrade that is out of production and 3 ounces... I misplaced it a year or two ago and found it at the bottom of a pool many months later and not a touch of rust. It locks it is easy to open it works wood and fuzz stick well.. and serves me. Has a clip on quick releasse for backpacks. Keep an eye out at farmers markets... $10

Have you considered SOG knives? I know it's a little out of your price range, but for $40 to $50 you can have a really nice knife.

I carry this one with me all the time when I'm camping. It comes in really handy and the sheath is very nice. You can wear it in a boot, in your belt, or around your neck. You get two blades and it just plain works. I think it looks cool, too.
I really like the Becker Necker...I think it's the BK11 now... I also have the BK9 which is an awesome camp knife..(just have to get someone too carry it for you) :-)
I have a BK 11 and like it a lot but I came across a an interesting knife I had not seen before at REI by Columbia River called the Ikoma Keydashi. I had a store credit from a return so I pulled the trigger. It has a very interesting sheath design. I am pretty sure there is a youtube video out on it.
