I have the 12x12 guide gear tarp, and I'd like to add center tie-outs to use it in winter mode. I read the threads on adding them. Problem is, I can't sew, I don't have any fabric, and I'm terrible at DIY (see signature). Is there a easy, cheap way to do it? Would a simple grommet punch work? I'm considering just using a larks head around a ball on each side (temporary is ok).
Any advice is appreciated.

I use grip clips on my guide gear 12. you can get em at jacks r better
are they better than using these?

I would think Grip Clips would be easier on the material as a side pull out.Quote:

it would be hard to place them where you want them, the only place would be on the edges, the grip clips can go anywhere on the tarp!
I used something similar to those recently. Made a small tear in my GG tarp. Thankfully the tear is where I plan to sew in the tie-outs, and the tie-out backing should fix the tear.Quote:

Cut up a balloon and place the pieces in between the tarp and the grip clips. Should hold OK if the force is straight out. It still might slip if pulled from the side.Quote:

I so ordered the grip clips from Amazon. I think I paid around $10 for a set of four clips. And the clips come with some bonus cordage as well.
Only problem I'm having now is waiting for some decent weather to try out my new system. Haven't been able to test hang it yet.
yea Ive never had mine slip. but I don't get alot of wind. like someone said above you can use pieces of a balloon

I haven't gotten around to sewing loops on my GG tarp yet, so I just used a combination of this knot: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=31223 and a lark's head around a ball. Basically I made the loop loosely around my upright, then put the lark's head 6 inches or so behind the slip knot, then pulled the loop tight. We'll see if it holds all night or if it loosens.
