2 Underquilt Shells Left

Hello all. Some of you may know that I've been making UQ shells for a few months now. After the last batch, I have 2 left. They measure 46" wide by 50" long (torso length) and have 9 baffles (2.5" baffles for a max loft of 3+"). Both are dark olive on olive green. These are differential cut UQ's.

Weight of the shell is 6 ounces. With 850 fill it will weigh less than 15oz without suspension.

The two long edges and one end are already rolled hemmed with channels.

All thats needed to complete the UQ is to add the down of your choice to each baffle and then sew the edge shut (rolled hem with a channel). Add the shock cord suspension of your choice and it's done. Depending on the down fill you use, this UQ is rated from 10* to 20* - this is a conservative est. because everyone experiences cold differently.

Tell me what down fill you'll be using and I will tell you the exact amount for each baffle.

Price per UQ is $50.00 including shipping. Shipping will be Priority mail.

Thank you, Barlutti. It will be right after X-mas. I'm working on the new website and will post it as soon as it's done. I will be making full length and torso lengths available. I can also do custom width and lengths.

Thank you Deadphans! Definitely early next week. I have to make the paypal shopping cart behave itself with lots of sandboxy testing. There will also be complete pics/vids of how to fill and sew the end shut. Maybe one on suspension making too.

I am actually very very very excited about this. I think with the shell and 850 fill, I could save some money on an uq that I want for 15 degrees...i don't have a sewing machine but my gf does. This could work!

Do you plan on having other items in your shop?

Thanks Deadphans - yes, I plan on having a few other things - looking at making socks for a reasonable price. I've had people fill the shells with 850 fill and they say it saves them about 1/3 of a completed item.

I'm mainly doing this to fill a niche for those who want to do some diy, but not all diy, and have the option to use whatever fill they can afford. I really respect the UQ venders for making such great products and I know they try to save people money where possible. This started as a part time thing and I hope I can make some people happy. I guess you could say I make UQ "kits".

Yea, I think it is a great idea. Especially for someone like me who wants to venture in to a diy world. It would be much easier for me to start the way you offer, this way I can really see how the construction is done and peer in to the shell before putting down in.

That's exactly why I grabbed one of the two.

Also, as mentioned, the cost, including new 850 fill down and suspension (shock cords and hardware) are between 1/2 and 2/3 the cost of a new partial length underquilt.

What a clever idea! I think you may have found a nice niche market! One question, can your shells be used as a top quilt? (or are there top quilt shells on the horizon?)

Hello stevebo - they can't be used as top quilts - baffles going in the wrong direction and the shape is wrong (not wide enough or long enough) - sorry. I do have TQ shells on the back burner though!

I have lots of other things to put on the site, but simply lack the time and resources to get them off the ground. I really wasn't expecting to sell out so fast - caught me by surprise. After I hit my stride in a few weeks I'll be able to get things going with more products.
