I like my bed. I really do. It's a nice bed. But sometimes, my back will start hurting, and the only way for my back to heal is to, you guessed it, sleep in my hammock.
A few nights in the hammock and my back is right as rain. Then I go right back to the bed. If I had any sense, I'd just sleep full time in my hammock, but I really like that bed.
That is not stupid. I have the same problem...it is called my wife! :D
Same here. I like my bed and I like the person next to me, but a night or 2 in the hammock does wonders for the back.

We all have our "duh" moments. This is one of mine. Why does my back hurt when I sleep in a bed? And why does it feel better when I sleep in a hammock? I should just skip the first question entirely.Quote:

I am right in the middle of the exact same thing. I am 54 and get sciatic pain a few times a year from my bed. I will be in the hammock again tonight to help relieve it.
I would bet that some grad student could get a grant to study the exact mechanisms involved. I just know it works.

With my new job and having to relocate away from my wife, I don't even plan on taking a bed. I am just going to build a indoor hammock stand and us that. To which my wife replied "so what happens when I come over" "ok I'll take the spare mattress as well." I still plan on using the hammock, but when she comes to visit will have to be forced to sleep in the bed.
Then again she likes hammocks, and has a WBBB, so maybe she'll want me to make her a stand as well. :lol:
For what it's worth, my Rolfer (kind of a cross between massage therapist and chiropractor...works far better than either, btw) says it's due to the "hip flexors relax", whatever that means. :)Quote:

I ended up sleeping in a RECLINER FOR 4 YEARS. My back hurt so bad after an automobile accident. The Chiropractor fixed a lot of the soft tissue damage, but I still could not sleep in a bed or on the floor. Finally my Cardiologist insisted I sleep flat at night, something about it helps the heart beat more efficiently, so the lungs move the oxygen around, which moves the lymph fluid, which helps the body recover during sleep.
I tried many different types of beds, I could not stand the "Sleep Number Bed", I ended up with a TempurPedic. I had to take about three month to adjust to the bed. My mother really liked her "Sleep Number Bed" I guess it is just what your back problem is.
I sleep great in my HH, I wish I had it when I was traveling, many a night I slept, braced against a wall, in a motel/hotel room.
Love my bed too....I save the hammock as when I get to use it makes it special.
I do always try to go diagonal in the bed much to my wife's dismay))))

Hip flexors sounds about right. My wife showed me a hip stretch she learned at her exercise class that works some relief as well.Quote:

I paid a lot of money for my bed, my sister is now enjoying it. Had I known that I would sleep better in a $60 hammock than in a $2000 bed...not to mention the money I've saved in chiropractic and massage therapy bills.
So why does my doc look at me like I'm nuts--I'm used to my wife looking at me like that--when I've told him that that back of mine which hurts and has hurt for 30+ years is quickly relieved by even just a couple hours in the hammock?
Went to Fort Valley Va. this past weekend to pickup the G-daughter for the summer. Spent 2 nights in motel beds, 1 going & 1 returning, it almost killed me. Did get 3 nights in the hammock in the backyard. Fantastic being able to hang outside again! Need to work on getting the trutledog stand down to a shorter travel package.
Yea....mine is called my husband :( Seems we all have a common goal here on the forums, but when married you have to keep convincing your spouse that it would be better to be sleeping in seperate hammocks full time. He's still not convinced :(Quote:

That causes nerves to go haywire leading to very tight lower back muscles. The hammock provides a bit of a curve in my lower back which apparently fixes the issue. I'm guessing some other folks might have something similar going on so far as irritated nerves leading to muscle tightness goes. My wife thought I was crazy at first but since I snore she got used to the idea really fast. So the move to a hammock fixed two problems. Long live Warbonnet.

SilvrSurfr you're the smartest man I know! In all seriousness I wish I could hang indoors. My hammock is much better then my bed.
The last really, really good nights sleep I have had was the last night of FH3. I have slept on my bed(wife really likes the bed, me not so much), on the couch(bit better than bed), and naps on floor and a few days in hospital room recliners.
My back freaked on me last Thursday and put me on the couch since the bed is not good for the back pain. Good for hip pain, but not the back, too soft. I'm ready to get back to that wonderful feeling I had last back on January 21st, Monday, after waking from the last time in my hammy. Ooooh, I miss the hammy.:crying
