UQ shock cord slipping

Was camping this past weekend with my Incubator. Woke up about 3am and was a little chilled, thought maybe I just needed to answer the call of nature. When I got back in my hammock, I checked my UQ suspension, and thought that it had loosened. I tightened the line-locs and went back to sleep. Woke up and again was chilled. Before packing everything, I decided to check the line-locs, and found that the shock cords were slipping. I don't want to tie a knot, as I have had problems getting them untied, and I want to be able to still adjust the shock cord for venting on warmer nights. Has anyone else had problems with this?

I was looking at DIY Gear Supply, and the LineLoc 3 is what it looks like I have. I was thinking of ordering some of the Microlock Cordlocks to use as a backup. Pull the shock cord tight through the LineLoc 3 and then tighten the Microlock against it. I wouldn't have to tie any knots in the shock cord, and the microlocks weigh very little. Thanks........RR

I use cord locks and dutch quilt clips. Holds nice and tight, yet is easy enough to adjust from in the hammock. Just squeeze the cord lock to loosen, or pull the shock cord to tighten.

The LineLoc 3s are on the quilt already. I really don't want to have to cut the webbing to remove them, if I don't have too.....RR

can you fit larger shock cord through them?

Thanks, a nice simple solution that I didn't even think about. Will have to get some a little larger and try it........RR

I know you said you didnt want to tie a knot,but a simple half hitch would hold it with the ability to untie them just by pulling on the tail of the knot .

Sorry about the late response.

One other thing you might try is tightening up the primary suspension. If it is not tight enough, it would require the secondary suspension to be pulled tighter to get the quilt to hug the bottom of the hammock. The tighter that secondary suspension is, the thinner it gets and the easier it is to slip though the line locs. Some of the other suggestions made are great solutions as well.

You probably know how to do it, but for those that do not, tightening the main suspension is simply a matter of adding another over hand knot a few inches down from the original over hand knot.

I am not understanding the primary/secondary suspension. At each end, there are two shock cords, one really small one to cinch the draft collars, and one that goes from corner to corner through th LineLocs that are attached to the quilt with a piece of webbing.
This cord has the s-biner to attach it to the hammock........RR

I think what Adam is referring to as the primary suspension is that which runs parallel with the hammock. Simply tightening the shock cord by tying another overhand knot in the shock cord and connecting it to the S biner will shorten the length of the cord, thus tightening the suspension.

Again, if I understand him correctly, this adjustment may reduce the need for the secondary suspension or those cords running perpendicular to the hammock from being tightened down as hard.

I know this is absolutely true for my Phoenix. When I get it dialed in, it is pure downy goodness. Good luck with it RR.

I think I am wrong on the secondary. I haven't seen the new Incubator, but I believe there is a line that runs from one S hook to the other S hook on the far end and through channels on each side. I think that is primary.

Secondary would be those running from the corners perhaps. I don't want to make it more confusing, but I think the most important thing is to tighten those that run S hook to S hook.

When I bought the Incubator, and my Phoenix for that matter, both had a long shock cord running from end to end, along the side channels, with S-biners on the ends. Then last year, Adam had a thread about changing the suspension, and adding the draft collars. I sent both UQs back, and had the DC added and the suspension was changed. The side channels are now closed off where the LineLocs were added. I'll see if I can get a pic up in a bit.......RR

This is what the suspension should look like if it is the newer version. There should be 3 pieces. First is the full length shock cord that is one huge loop running all the way around the channels(primary). This is the piece Adam is talking about tying a knot in to shorten. The next piece has the line locks(secondary). This should be a smaller piece if shock cord running from one line lock to the other. This allows you to tighten down toward the head end, foot end, or pull one corner tighter than the other. The last part is the tiny cord used to cinch up the draft collar. I can't see the pic but if the primary is gone then you will definitely have problems with slippage. It should be an easy remedy though.

Yep you got one of our 'transition' suspensions. Send it back and we will all new suspension and edging on it for you. I think it will help solve some of your fit issues.

How do the (secondary suspension) line lock cords hook up on the suspension end. Do they hook all the way up near the attachment point of the main suspension? Im trying to visualize this suspension system in its entirety so I can feed ideas on out how I want to do the suspension on my DIY.

Primary/ secondary suspensions both attach to the same s-biner or whatever type of clip you use. Without the secondary suspension, there isn't really a way to keep the quilt pulled one way or the other. It's job isn't to keep the quilt suspended, but pull it where you need it...i.e. if you need it closer to the head end then you tighten the head end secondary

UPDATE: Sent both of my quilts back to HG last Friday. Today (this Friday) I received my UQs back from HG. I am very impressed, 1 week turn around. New edge material and a new suspension system, plus a little overstuffing in the Incubator, and I am now good to go. As soon as I opened the package, I had to go hang my hammock and UQs. Up first was the Incubator, as soon as I layed down, I could feel the warmth, from head to toe. I reached between the quilt and hammock, and there was a nice fit, with no gap. I can remember having a little gap the last time I used the UQ. The Phoenix was the same, a nice and tight fit. Can't wait for next weekends camp out. I may just go sleep outside tomorrow, just because.

I know that the problems I encountered were just a fluke, with you trying a new suspension, but you got it right with this one. And thanks for the great customer service.

You can see three lines, the bottom is just the tail from the middle line. The middle is the one that goes from one corner to the other, on the head end of the UQ.

The top line is the long shock cord that runs from the hook or s-biner, through the side channel to the opposite hook or s-biner, and back through the other side channel, and then tied to the other end of the shock cord. This is the primary suspension.

I finally figured out what I was doing wrong, because of your pics. I only have had the secondary suspension attached to the hammock and not the primary :D. Now I know why I have gotten drafty cold spots :( , when the primary is not attached, the ends bunch up and form a wind tunnel.
