Tarps and Heaters
I see many (cold winter with snow) pics of large tarps covering hammocks, some with wing doors, and wonder why I've never seen any sort of heater under the tarp, like a Mr Heater. I can understand not having a little campfire, as blown embers might melt a hole in you hammock or tarp, or worse. Maybe the pics I've seen have been of backpackers, but if one went in a vehicle, it seems it would help a lot to warm the air under the tarp.

The Quilts have been good for me down to Minus 3*F. If you dress for the weather you should be good to go!!!

I've got a mr heater, I'll have to try it sometime. I tried it in a tent and didn't get condensation but it didn't really warm up the tent either, It had mesh walls and a fly over the top so the heat went up and out the top of the fly. It did feel pretty good where the heat was directed toward you. My guess is that the heat will not collect much in the tarp but it could be worth a try. The heater in a tent thing makes me a little nervous, I only tried it when getting in bed and after I woke up in the morning, I didn't leave it running while I was asleep.

One of our NW members has a propane tank with a heater attached that is set up to blow hot air on the hammock. It looks like a great way to get warm and toasty before drifting off to sleep.
I am nervous a Nervous Nilly, where anything burning around my sleeping area is of great concern. Maybe it is from years of living on the edge of recreational areas, where people PLAY at being outdoorsy types. The idea of being out in the forest is great if you develop experience carefully. However too many people just buy gear that they do not know how to use, then get out in the bush and experiment with it. I have seen many many serious burns. Cuts come in a distant second to burns. Cuts heal up, burns disfigure and cause other types of medical problems.
I dress carefully for the weather conditions that I might encounter. My clothing is my first and best line of defense to keep my personal microcosm comfortable. I do carry reusable heat packs, just incase I have problems with my core body temperature dropping. They are small and fit in a pocket or in a pack, just a little back up for quick heat.
