From UQ back to a pad? Has this ever happened?
Just curious as I plan to buy my first underquilt in June whether anyone has ever bought an UQ and then decided to go back to pads. If so, why?
Forgive me if this topic has been covered. It probably has but I ran a search and didn't find any results. Perhaps I wasn't using the right word string.

Actually yes, well kinda. I've had a 40 degree underquilt for a while. It's my go to for most of the year. In the winter I was supplementing it by adding a pad. This setup works really well for me. So last year I decided to buy a new 0 degree uq and not use the pad. I don't know what's going on but I just can't stay warm in it even on 20 degree nights. Also, it is so much larger packed that it takes up almost all my pack space (I just strap the pad to the outside). Needless to say I'll be selling it and going back to my old setup.

I use a pad in the winter. I stay much warmer.

I like the shape the pad offers my bridge however, it's just a remarkably comfortable get'up.
I've been wondering this same thing. I have a 20* incubator and a DIY under quilt, but when I bought my ridge runner, it seems like a pad might be a better option. Do you like the pad better than the quilt for your bridge?
