I've ordered my DN Deluxe and will be picking it up on my way down to FL in a couple weeks.
Looking over this forum and other areas, I'm wondering what are the Must Do mods for this hammock when it comes to hammock camping.
I've ordered just the hammock as of now as I know I'm going to find non-ENO products that will work better and or be less expensive.
I have a couple months before I dive in to hammock camping with my first multi-day kayak trip.
Things I did to mine that I love:
- Removed entire ENO suspension, replaced with whoopie slings.
- Removed stuff sack, cut off straps/buckle, put a grommet in the bottom to turn it into a bishop bag.
- Added an adjustable ridgeline
Not sure about any absolute must do's, but I think most would say the biggest improvement would be to switch out the stock suspension gear. I'm not even sure how important this is, if you are getting their new upgraded carabiners (haven't seen them in person). Adding a ridgeline takes a lot of the fiddling out of the setup.

It's personal preference, but a bishop bag makes setting up and taking down the hammock much quicker and easier, in my opinion.Quote:

there's been some long threads about removing vs. leaving the storage bag attached. Benefits to both. Bishop bag makes stuffing a little easier, and some like to leave the attached bag as a storage place (phone, drink, keys, etc.) while using the hammock. You could always leave the bag on for a while to see if you like it, and remove it later if you don't.
Also, some remove only the compression strap from the stuff bag. It serves a limited use, and lightens the load a little.
I've kept mine pretty much stock. Sometimes, I remove the biners and use the loop in the original rope suspension with the marlin spike hitch in my straps.
I like the attached sack and I like the strap and buckle. I don't mind the stock rope. I don't like the stock carabiners.
I'd say, use it stock for awhile and determine if the hammock is "too heavy" or "too bulky" for you and then start modding. Some folks even cut off the "wings". Whatever. I guess that's why ultra-lighters are called "gram WEENIES."
I'll see what biners come with mine as I just ordered it. I am heavily thinking of going with D rings as it looks like a quick and easy setup when fumbling in the dark.Quote:

I'm actually looking forward to the oversize of the deluxe. I'm thinking (will see when I get it) that the extra material will wrap me nicely and with a couple velcro dots holding the material in place.
I don't know what the mosquito (or other flying and biting insect) situation is up there in Canada, but I know here in Texas, a bug net was extremely important. The mosquitoes can get at you THROUGH the hammock.
So, if mosquitoes are a problem, get a bug net.

I also tend to do most of my off the beaten path camping during September and October when there are no bugs. October can be sketchy though as I've woken up in snow once or twice with a tent and sleeping bag rated for summer only.

Lucky for us, no poisonness insects this far north. Apparently we have French River rattle snakes here, but I have yet to see one.

I have an ENO Doublenest I take with me on dayhikes. The only change I made was the whoopie slings. I added an adjustable ridgeline but didn't like it on a day hike hammock because it just gets in your way. So I removed the ridgeline.
On my ENO DN, I have done a variation of the Knotty mod or "side stretch mod". When I am in the hammock and I tighten down the shock cord it really makes a difference.
I added an adjustable structural ridge line but I haven't played with it enough to really see the difference.
As for the suspension, everything is stock at the moment but those carabiners have to go. I am either going to replace them with some ultralight climbing grade biners from REI or go with whoopie slings. I haven't decided yet.
BUT my biggest "mod" will be in June when I purchase an AHE New River underquilt. Its my first underquilt and I am very excited. So long pad wrasslin!
Can someone please point me in the direction of buying or making a Ridgeline for the DN.

By the way, I noticed you are from Canyon Country. I know that area well. Legend has it my dad actually came up with the name "Canyon Country". Apparently there was a contest to name the area and he figured well there is Sand Canyon and all these other canyons so voila "Canyon Country". There are still a couple streets named after my family there. Beautiful country.
The side stretch mod or "knotty mod" is a nice way to create more of a head/footbox and eliminate some of the floppiness in the sides of the hammock.
If you call ENO and ask they will send you the new carabiners free.

Adjustable dyneema ridgeline - gets a lot of stress because the 83% thing, which gives the best lay, also creates a major dip in the hammock which means lifting the straps higher on the tree...or have a tight ridgeline. I need to drop the ridgeline to the end end of the hammock instead of where the rope biners to the strap, that might help.
Adding a knotty mod soon, just got the shock cord. Winter camping had my quilt spilling out of the foot end of the hammock.
Underquilt is a must have, prefer it to a pad for sure. Using an old repurposed sleeping bag works just fine.
ENO bug net is great because it does hang below the hammock plus allows gear storage.
Treat hammock and net with permethrin.
A great setup, have someone sleeping in it right now while i post this from another hammock. :D

I also ditched the ropes in the end channels and made some dog bones out of dynaglide.
Had an Amstel ARL until I found a comfy lay then made a non-adjustable out of lash-it. Now the fiancé is dialing hers in with the ARL. :)
I've been using whoopies and carabiners for a few months and decided to lighten it a bit more with dynaglide UCR's, can't wait to try them out, whoopie hooks and mule tape are soon to come.
Also ordered some custom underquilts from Mike at te-wa. REALLY can't wait for those!!!
Next on the list is mosquito netting and the knotty mod.

The 1/8th Amsteel Blue makes great suspension bits, including ridge lines and it's easy to work with. I used it to make a single line suspension system and one consisting of DIY whoopies and a fixed ridgeline. Also made an adjustable ridge line (which is just a really long whoopie) to use as a back-up whoopie. Replaced the end ropes with continuous loops (also DIY). Black Diamond "Neutrino" carabiners replaced the stock (old style) steel ones.
Total weight: I have no clue. It was a fun project though.
I love my Eno DN body but I changed out the ropes for amsteel continuous loops, whoopie slings and tree straps.
Ok. The compression straps must go. Bishop bag sounds like a good idea too.
