jdirks - there's a DIY forum that you can browse. There have been several people that have made UQ's out of poncho liners and, I believe, a couple made out of lightweight sleeping bags.
The problem seems to be more an issue with the weight of the bag and trying to keep it in proper relation to the hammock.
I don't have an underquilt that won't fit my Blackbirds, so just pick one of the DIY builds that MikeN pointed you towards. It's excellent practice and gives you a great headstart when/if you decide to build yourself an underquilt from scratch. :cool:
