yeah, add a place to add a grounding rod :)
So, am I right in assuming the two tripods are supporting each other? I've seen other stands that are similar, but they always had a guy line in the ground to keep them from leaning towards the hammock. In this I'm guessing that the force is put into the ridge pole that connects the two tripods. Also, for those using WSs this looks like a good place for the nacrabiner (sp?) to attach the suspension to the stand or you could use a regular biner or quick connect. I'd say if you can't figure out a way to attach your hammock, you've got bigger problems
Looks like a good exercise in agility with all the tarp/hammock guy-lines :D
Hope it all comes together for you. Good Luck!
Very nice idea hope it come out the way you have planned! I was looking into making a stand using threaded plumber's pipe (prob galv. pipe, as I can't find anything else)! But your design looks sooooooo much better!
Bump. Update?
Thanks for the bump! I guess I owe the forum an update. So, the welder I contracted couldn't get the joints created before my trip last week, so I put him on hold until I returned. I was a little disappointed, but thankfully there were a few trees where we camped so we were able to salvage the trip. I'll post a trip report later.
As for the universal joint, I plan on going back to the welder this month to see if I can re-negotiate and get it done. I am a little worried about the initial price for the prototype, but I also really want to get them produced. I'll bump this thread again when I've made contact.
Good luck!!
I was actually thinking of the same thing for one tripod. If you make them and they are reasonably priced I'd rather buy from you. To prevent splay I was considering on using some amsteel to connect the ground end of the legs together in the hopes that one leg being hooked to the other two would keep them in place during times of "distress".
