Oh, I got a big laugh from those last few posts!
Happy Thanksgiving, all.
My four year old son wanted me to buy him a "coon" skin cap that we saw in a country store, but when I showed him the bug eyed pic he told me that he doesn't want one anymore. :D haha He told me that it looked scary!!!
Take a look at the 4 in 1 hood. I use one during the winter here in MN and it is toasty. One stays in my vehicle year round.
Quite versatile, shouldn't be too hard to make.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

It started snowing last night and has continued on and off today. Just a dusting here along the IA border region. Ready or not winter is coming.
My version would have .6" - 1.2" climashield xp sandwiched between 2 layers of 1.9 ripstop. Should be windproof enough I guess.
Oh yes... And be VERY warm... I'd wager that in a hood the .6" would be fine unless it gets too compressed.
I'd wear a fleece beanie inside to keep the soft fuzzy feel.
Good idea with the DWR. I'm thinking now of making a kind of hood, much like you and T-back were talking about. Hood with drawstring that could be pulled back down around your neck... still haven't finalized on a design.
i have one of these...

as you see in the description you can wear it as a balaclava, a neck gaiter, or a hat. but the reason it does all those things is because it's stretchy.
i don't know how well that would work w/ a non-stretchy, insulated piece like you're talking about, but i like the versatility.
maybe one could make a modified tube. instead of a simple tube w/ the top opening at the top, it could have an opening in front w/ an elastic draw string. but it would be a liner, insulation, & shell.
just a thought:o
