I guess I'd better not screw up on this tarp. :o
Mike, thanks for the heads up on the sil. I've been looking for a while and was getting discouraged. Now I've got enough for one tarp.

I'm in the same boat. Never made a tarp before. I'm just going to take it slow and easy. Good luck with yours. I'll of course post pics of mine once I get finished with it.
have you tried asking companies that make baloons? they often use ripstop silnylon and get any colour you like.
Same with me...slow and easy. I'll get pics of mine up as well. I started on my two hammocks last night. Got both lengths cut and started roll hemming them.
I went to Wally World a few minutes ago for green sil and as usual, no dice. If anyone comes across any more OD or sage sil, let us know.
I figured that color would be rare and sell out quickly. I was just lucky enough to see it listed and it was pro'lly half gone by then...
I purchased 10 yards
We tried a bulk order with another company a while back and it ended badly/quickly. It never happened as the company kept telling us "a few more weeks" until we went away.
We could try another group buy but I think that it's really tuff for these companies to get the OD sil for some reason.
SQUIDDERS, I've never thought of ballon makers but I wouldn't know where to start. I've searched the internet extensively and I keep hearing about this legendary green sil but I've never seen it first hand.
I've seen some on line in Canada but they wanted the price of a kidney for it.
Brian, I'd go in with a group buy.
I can't use as much as you would be able to use (all my family would have to want tarps...), but I'd take a fair amount if it were cheap enough and the right color...
i don't believe hot air baloons are made of sil. pretty sure they are made of 1.9 not sure weather it's coated or not.
anybody should be able to get sil in any color they want as long as they can afford to order an entire dye lot. this could be as few as a couple thousand yards depending on the manufactuer.
That's a lot of tarps.Quote:
