I am short on time...and hope someone will let me know if one of the two types of webbing I recently purchased is better than the other....
One is a green 1" webbing from Bass Pro that is flat and has distinct texture.
The other is a gold colored 1" tubular webbing from REI that is rather smooth in comparison to the other. I don't know what the materials of either are.
If there is a preference for one over the other....then that is what I will take to the BWCAW. Thanks
The REI webing is most likely nylon which stretches a ton. Cant say about the Bass Pro. Might be nylon as well. Polyester webbing is the way to go.
In my experience scouting the internet for webbing, I've found that the default material is nylon. You just have to work a bit harder to find polyester.
So then if both bits of webbing are nylon, which will stretch less? I can't say for sure but my intuition would say the one with more material to it, the 1" tubular. Being thicker it ought to have more "grab" in the rings as well. Being thicker it will be heavier, but that's the least of your worries when you're portaging a 50 lb canoe loaded with 50 lbs of gear.
If you can, try hanging with the gold before you go, and see if there are any issues. Definitely do the half-hitch behind the rings to arrest any slippage.
