Hi there! i'm just hangin' around here in the South Bay of CA, enjoying the ocean. I grew up in a home w/a bacyard hammock, so i had to continue the tradition w/my own kids. i have a question: has anyone seen a portable folding hammock stand available in the U.S. market like this Austrian one that i found online? i've been searching and searching...

would love to buy an American product like this, but don't know if it exists. this seems like a great site! :) Happy to be here.

Funny I haven't posted in this thread since I joined so long ago...
I just wanted to be able to camp in more places, and the hammock seemed the logical choice, especially in the area that I like to hike the most (Green Mountains in VT). The rest is history...

Recliner Napper
Sleeping on the hard ground, lumpy, bumpy, wet, and cold has never worked well for me. I sleep like a rock in my home recliner. A hammock is a outdoor recliner. Sweet Dreams....

I have always loved the outdoors, hiking, camping, any reason to be out in nature. I thought sleeping on the ground was how it had to be, until 2 Questions steered me in a higher direction. I am hooked, and I'll never sleep on the ground again.

The Shug Emery videos on youtube got me going.

To be fair, I'm not a hanger yet, just extremely interested. It is the culmination of a dream to sleep in a hammock as my permanent bed, my love of camping and general survivalish activities, and the unique thought of camping non-traditionally.

I'm a function over form type of person and I like to try things out. I can't say that I am only a hanger as I recognize the value of both hammocks and tents depending on the situation. However, many things drove me to try out hammocking. The videos from Shug on YouTube were the catalyst. Now that I've tried it I do enjoy it though, I think getting lighter tarb will help things along. I love to learn new things and ultimately that is what pushed me onto the cloud.

My body and Shug
My body and Shug got me interested. Then it was becoming addicted to You Tube, then reading whatever I could find online or at the library about hanging. So that is my tale of "Why"

Getting older, going light-Hey, I'm almost at the ultralight breakpoint!!- led me to hammock hanging. It's changed everything for me- my back, backpacking, the way I hang the old eno in the theatre between shows- I'm a happy woman!

Hammocks has to be more comfortable than tents, less weight and space using a hammock packing it on my motorcycle.
