I think my wife summed it up the best...
I was hanging out with some of my hf buddies... It was the first time she had met any of them, before that night everyone was names on a screen... So she was politely listening to us ramble on and crack jokes at each other... A little later she leans over and says
"I think you have found your people"
That pretty much summed it up for me...
First and foremost; hammocking knowledge, without a doubt. But if that's all I got out of this "gathering of great minds," I'd have been gone after a few days. You can find all the information you need in an hour or two to be a "darn good hammocker."
Second; as I read all the posts, I get a feel for that person. What they look like, the sound of their voice, what their home looks like, what kind of pets they may have etc. No! not because I'm creepy, But because these guys put so much of themselves into their posts, sharing from days to decades of experience freely, not only in hammocking, but in their own life too.
They are giving me what they have learned and have come to love. For what price? For the hopes that you will get as much enjoyment out of this hobby, for me now addiction, as they do. How can you NOT want to stick around.
I heard somebody on HF say " I don't know if hammocks attract really good people, or if sleeping in hammocks makes people really good." Pretty much sums it up for me. I have made more close friends through this forum than in any other endeaver. Oh, and the level of innovation exhibited here is EXCITING!
It's the camaraderie, and the knowledge, the stories and the good karma that's spread around here that has me spending way more time that I should here. :D
Lots of good people here, and at any moment the next great innovation in hammocking could be just a click away.
An empty hammock strung between two trees isn't much to look at. Just a shapeless rag caught in the branches, serving no purpose.
Now add a person. The hammock has blossomed, taken on shape and has found it's purpose!
The same holds true for this forum. The people in it make all the difference.
I wish I could just copy and paste little snippets of what everyone has said.
Because it would be my sentiments exactly.
I have made some new friends while here. And learned a bunch, it has given me more of a reason to be outdoors doing what I like.
It has given me something to think about when I am having a bad day at work.
Thanks everyone
The forum administers no castigation for doing stupid things. It's better than marriage....Wait!...I need to get up and leave the room. A feeling is in the wind!
All of my closest friends hang out here. Since going to my first hang in September, I have made friends with a great bunch of hangers here in the palmetto state. They accept me just the way I am and I celebrate the uniqueness in each of them. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
The spoon is beautiful!! Thank you for continuing the generosity shown by so many here.
beside the common love of the outdoors, I'd have to echo the thoughts of others...it's the people. Never came across a more friendly and generous group.
