Or maybe Royal Ambassadors? I'm bringing my RA group to the Sipsey sometime in late April, early May.
A couple buddies and I did the Pinhoti-Chinnabee-Skyway Loop in the fall of 2016. I've never done that section of the Pinhoti you'll be on.
Me and Ruger are planning on hanging somewhere in the Sipsey Friday night and then making our way to Wolfpen at some point Saturday. Any idea what day-hike the group will do?
First-timers have to drink the blood of a wild boar. All of it.
You mean your family isn't comfortable with the idea of you meeting up with a bunch of strangers you met on the internet- in the middle of nowhere, with limited cell signal...?
I should probably tell you, my kit... is a hammer.
Who?
Wife off work and Ole Miss playing UL Lafayette... count me in.
Looking for site advice along the river. Out of Horseshoe Bend, Barn Hollow, White's Creek, and Greenbriar float camps - which is best suited for 2-4 hammocks?
I can make you a set from wild boar innards. Ultralight, Eco-friendly, and a tasty trail snack in a pinch.

If you don't already have the Maplets App, I highly suggest it. It's no longer free, because it's AWESOME, but it's still worth the purchase.

This was 3 years ago in Jan. Gotta love those winter trips.
Any plans for dayhikes on Saturday or is everyone gonna hang around the campground?
With our upcoming Sipsey Wilderness group hang a month out, I decided to treat myself to a little upgrade. En route any day now will be a nice shiny new pair of Stingerz w/ black reflect it added! ...

Looks like nice moonlight for the hang.
I bought the Aerie 30* to use as a TQ and haven't been disappointed. I can see how the sewn-through construction might be an issue if I used it as an UQ and had it cinched tightly to my booty, but...
"after thinking about it further, i think next time out i'll try just having the bag unzipped and using it as a top-quilt and see how i like that before i go out and invest in a top-quilt"
I use...
As of now, I'm in! Haven't been able to make one of these yet. I should be able to get away Friday night, if not, Saturday morning for sure.
October 7-9
We're trying to leave Oxford as early as possible on that Friday. It's roughly 4 hrs to the Adam's Gap TH assuming we don't lollygag. Still undecided whether we want to check out...
Thanks everyone for the tips so far. I printed and laminated the trail guide from http://www.pinhotitrailalliance.org/loop---pin-chin-sky..html
I don't usually like knowing every twist and turn or...
MasterStrapper and I have decided to branch out from our beloved Sipsey for a trip this fall. We're planning to do the Pinhoti--Chinnabee Silent--Skyway Loop over in Talladega NF/Cheaha Wilderness...
That was my immediate thought.
Just now, while scrolling through Facebook, an advertisement pops up for hydrohammock.com
I'll chase that rabbit... Turns out for $1600 you can get their full setup including hammock,...
I try to hit the Sipsey each season or at least as often as my wife, 4 yr old, and 2 yr old allow. April 23/24 was shaping up to be perfect. This past Monday I went over to my hiking compadre's...
I'm trying to transition my gear from the big box store bought stuff to vendors and DIY. I got bit by the hammock bug like everyone else and wanted in for cheap but now I'm looking for more Made in...
Not a smash-the-piggy-bank purchase by any means, but proud to say I have my first piece of gear from HG on the way. Decided I'd purchase something small from a vendor today. Deal I made myself was...
Hate I missed yet another HF hang in the Sipsey. Hopefully my schedule permits me to make the winter hang, assuming that happens. If not, I know I'll be there in December with our church's youth...
NEVER!!!
Indeed. I believe they're at the 2nd or 3rd camp site when walking upstream on the West side. Next time there, be sure to check out the cliffs to the left of that site. There's some cool places up...
GONE. Please remove thread.
I've camped at a couple of those spots on the West side of the river. We had our Saturday morning breakfast at the one next to The Currents.
When you got to that intersection at the top-end of 201, you should've taken a right and dropped into the canyon. That'll take you down to the river. Once there, you'll go right for a short piece...
MasterStrapper and myself departed Oxford at roughly 5:30 Friday afternoon. We'd opted for a night hike in vs an early drive over on Saturday.
Arriving at Randolph TH shortly after 8 pm, we...
Can't do that. If all else fails, I'll order a bunch of socks or dehydrated meals. Not in need of any specific gear other than an extra TQ.
Thanks for the offer though!
I have a $100 REI Gift Card up for trade; wanting a TQ.
First Baptist in Bruce.
This is a good loop. You'll get to see a lot of the high points of the Sipsey. I'm taking a small group from our church youth group on a similar loop the last weekend in May. Enjoy!
I think I've settled on Talladega National Forest. There's a place about 20 minutes off of I-20 that is only $3 a night. It's about 1.5 hr on this side of ATL. Might check out some trails while...
Not that I remember.
I'm seriously considering driving back this direction after the game and spending the night. If I make it to Birmingham, I'll get off at Hamilton and go hang at the Sipsey....
I'm trying to combine a hammock camping trip and Peach Bowl for New Year's.
My beloved Rebels will kickoff vs TCU at lunch on New Year's Eve. I'll likely depart North MS super early that morning,...
I agree that the return to Thompson TH on 208 is a nice way to finish up a trip. MasterStrapper and I used it for the first time back in January on our Big Tree loop. Easy walking, nice views in...
I haven't been on those trails since last November. I didn't care too much for them, but I was stomping around before daylight with my headlamp. I found the trails to be a bit tough to follow with...
Sunny, High in the 60s... Clear, Low in the 40s! Are you kidding me? Less than 2 weeks before Christmas?!
With that forecast, some of us gotta take advantage. I'm not a sure thing yet but I...
The Sipsey is a special place. Definitely worth riding over and checking out one weekend. There were two HF hangs there this year. I'm sure there'll be one there this Spring. Great time to get in...
MasterStrapper and I arrived at Randolph TH shortly before 7am on Saturday. We took off on the connector trail and quickly got to the 201/202 junction. We opted for the 202 down to the river since...
Sorry, no. My Rebels won that Super Regional. The Ragin Cajuns deserve to be there though. They're probably better than half the teams going to Omaha. And those beards...
My beloved Ole Miss Rebels are heading to Omaha to play for the NCAA Championship! I'm seriously considering catching a ride out and backpacking for the CWS. Does anyone know of any good places to...
MasterStrapper and I left Oxford, MS around 8:30am headed towards the Buffalo National River. We canoed the lower sections a couple years ago but this time we'd be floating in our kayaks and it'd be...
We've decided to forgo the risk of not having a good Sipsey float and instead chose to take a bit longer drive and kayak....
THE BUFFALO NATIONAL RIVER!
We've floated the lower sections before...
