Welcome from a former Arizonian. I used to live a bit south from you in Cochise County.
I like to have an extra queen of each color just in case a pawn gets promoted.
I have to offer some big thanks to my wife's youngest brother for inspiring me to finally get off of my duff and back into the backcountry. This is my first non-car camping trip since I was a...
Welcome from a fellow NorCal fella.
Greetings from a fellow Californiac who discovered less back pain after sleeping in a hammock.
Wouldn't all of the bling make the rabbit hole sparkly and bright? It's actually so beautiful that it becomes hard to notice the gaping maw where a flush bank account used to be.
Talk about cuteness overload!!!
Okay, these are all over 5 years old, but I can't help sharing anyway.

Not quite what I was describing, but I do know the feeling you're talking about, too...
Okay, so maybe a more appropriate term may be "theraputic".
As for the missing hammock, I'm pretty sure it's buried somewhere in the bottomless pit that is my garage, so I have no one to blame but...
I'm finally getting back into the swing of things with my hammocking (pun intended), but my Grand Trunk Ultralight went missing, which left me without a hammock. The only reasonable response to such...
Welcome from Sacramento Proper. There are plenty of great places to hang not far from where you are.
For my tarp suspension, I use a continuous ridgeline made from mason line with dutch hook and stingerz, as a few people already mentioned. For the tie-outs, I use mason line UCR's (utility...

Welcome from a (temporarily displaced) fellow Sacramentan. I love getting up into the Sierras and hammocking has made it SO much nicer. Have fun, enjoy, and learn a lot.
If you want, I can make you a tarp ridgeline using carabiners and mason line as described in The Ultimate Hang for the cost of materials and shipping (about $5). PM me if you're interested.
I'll probably rent a car for a night or two, but that can be expensive, which is why I want to make sure that wherever I go has the lowest fees possible, preferably no fees at all.
I've been absent from the forums for a while due to some health and employment issues, but I'm back and wanting to get back into the "swing" of things. I recently got a new job that has me staying...
Dutch, if you keep this up I'll never have to go anywhere else to get my DIY on.
I'm in. Thanks!
A great big "hello" from the Capitol.
Secret Santa is the reason I became a donating member last year. I promise you will not regret it.
I'm in!! Thanks for the opportunity!
It was also my first hammock. I've had a few others, but the GTUL is the only one I still have and I've been hanging in it for over a year now.
It sounds like a great idea to me, so long as the land managers are on board with it. I also agree that it would probably make a good eagle project.
While it's no secret that I love my thread injector, it's physical appearance is something that has been a source of concern for me. Not only is it blatantly girly-looking, but I was getting...
+1 on a copy of The Ultimate Hang, but I would also recommend looking up Shug's Videos that offer a very informative (and hilarious) overview of hammock camping.
I've slept for up to 6 nights in a row in my GTUL without any problems at all. I find it to be very comfortable. But then again, I'm a smaller guy at 5'6" and weighing in at 155lbs. YMMV, I guess.
I was at scout camp last week with my troop, and two of my boys decided to sleep in hammocks the whole week. One of them had a big bulky woven hammock, and the other one had a tablecloth hammock...
I think it's a deal. Please PM me your info so we can work out the details.
This sounds an awful lot like conversations that I've had with my wife of 7 years. ;)
I have a pair of Dutch Buckles that I no longer use (I decided I prefer toggles) and I am looking to trade. I would prefer to get a Trangia/Esbit alcohol stove for the buckles, but I would consider...
Very nice!! Do you have any plans to sell lash-it/zing-it by the spool?
A lot of this sounds like how I ended up getting my own thread injector/sewing machine with all of the extra decorative stitches and embroidery and so forth. My wife has a mid/high-end Brother...
Another great giveaway! I'm in. I have a natural tendency towards making my own stuff, and this forum has added a ton of fuel to that fire. It also doesn't hurt that hammocks have provided the best,...
Howdy from the "other" Sate of California.
Welcome from a fellow Sacramentan. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
My personal favorite toggle is a 3"-4" piece of a plastic coat hanger. It's dirt cheap and I've done a number of hangs with that kind of toggle with no problems whatsoever.
This has got to be one of the most generous giveaways that I've seen! I'm in!
I find rotary cutters to be insanely useful for long, straight cuts. Grosgrain ribbon is also something that can be usefully applied to almost any DIY gear project.
I don't taper when I splice with mason line, but I do taper with other ropes that I splice. I figure that my mason line items won't be under enough load to be a big enough issue about the reduced...
I used to live down that way for a couple years, but that was before my hanging days. If you have access to Ft. Huachuca then I would suggest checking out Lower Garden Canyon. That area has enough...
Do you mean this one?

If so, [o]TTeR has posted instructions on how to build one here:

Nice! I got one of these hammocks from the HF Secret Santa last year, and I'm really happy with it. I took it on a couple overnighters, and then I gave it to my son for his birthday since he just...
Did you use a hollow toggle that got crushed under the load?
Congrats. I was at that same point last fall. Where did you get your degree?
Don't do it man! You have so much to live for! Just think about all of the cool hammock stuff you'll be missing out on!!! ;)
All joking aside, best of luck to you on the experiment, and I look...
Welcome from Sacramento. I have some in-laws really close to you in Manteca.
You may now consider my interest piqued! Do you have some close-up shots of the hinge/pin setup on those struts?
I tend to go back and forth between buckles and whoopies. I like 'em both, but I agree that the simplicity of buckles is hard to beat.
I've used bishop bags for my tarp before. It works pretty well, and the bag just hangs off of the ridgeline.
