Can't make it this time. Everyone have fun!
I use an Exped Downmat 7 short in my gathered end DIY hammock and have no complaints. Good backup if you have to go to ground.
I have to agree with Mac. Bad idea would be putting it mildly.
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you will like it more than learning how to sew.
The people who are going to know the limits of amsteel longevity are going to be the racing sailors who use it as standing rigging. That's a lot of strain and UV exposure.
I think that a bit of curve in the torso has positive effects on the back as opposed to laying absolutely flat. It stretches the back in a similar way to the 3rd world squat or the downward facing...
I've been hanging indoors off and on for a while now. During the blazing hot weather that we've been having lately it is a godsend!
I think that a house hammock subforum is a good idea. I got tired of answering the same questions over and over a while back. It's also nice to be able to see what other folks have come up with. ...
Looks nice, Knotty! I've tried other bug net options and I like this kind better. I learned about them from Risk's quarterweight hammock.
If there is a cure for DIY I don't want it.
One of my cats likes sleeping with me in my hammock, one does not. Neither of them have been declawed. +1 on putting the hammock away when not in use. The other thing that I have found is that it...
Congratulations! I'm glad that it worked out for you. Now go put an ice pack on your forehead. It must be sore and swollen from beating your head against a wall.
I like it! Hotel of the future. Oh, and yes I like the sculpture too.;)
One thing that you may want to consider is a wood burning stove. The fuel is free, the materials are free, there are many designs that you can DIY. If you make a penny wood stove out of a tomato...
Model # will be on plate below Singer oval logo. Af399678 is the serial #. It is a 201, made in Elizabethtown, NJ.
201s are good machines. Exterior dirt doesn't mean as much as...
Yes it is.
Keep in mind that there are three standard styles of singer presser feet: long shank, short or low shank, and slant shank. They are specific to the machine models and are NOT interchangable (IOW you...
Great machine! Clean it, lube it lightly with Singer lubricants, and it will probably work for the rest of your life.
Welcome to the forum! I met your dad a few years ago, and he's a great guy.
Yes, if the attachment points from the hammock are to the ridge pole, then the ridge pole acts as a compression member. The load on the tripods will be straight up-and-down. Therefore, the load on...
For anyone who is thinking about trying this, you are probably going to want to use rare earth magnets. The refrigerator type rubber magnets probably won't work like the ones in that ad.
I'll be there!
I've been following this thread for a little while now, and I'm going to make one of these stands. I think that I can increase the utility by using the tripods like this when the hammock is not in...
I saw this rig, and I have to say that WV is a creative genius.
It certainly would make underquilt suspension easy; just stick it to the bottom!:D
Look at this
Then add a tab over your head and you will be able to use it in a bed, hung from a tack in the ceiling.
Bonne chance dans la grande aventure. Peace be with you.
RE: endangering wetlands by harvesting cat tails
Cattails are so invasive that it is apparently illegal in my state to harvest them for fear that the harvester will inadvertently spread the seeds...
What about one of these?
Great job, 2Q!
I like it!
Looks good! Keep an eye on the bamboo as it ages. There is a tendency to crack.
Given a 7' x 7' room, the only way I can see to hang a hammock would be to mount two padeyes in the ceiling so that your hammock will hang diagonally to the room. The distance between the padeyes...
Yeah, the ski poles work well with two as a bipod, but iffy with one on each end.
Really nicely done!
Having written all the "be careful" stuff above, folks here on the forum have used a number of support poles that I figured would be too weak. For example, pedro used just two skip poles to support...

I like the barette idea! I'll have to try that.
As far as the issue of retrieving all of the pins/staples, I use a magnet to sweep my work area.
I like to use a desk stapler to do my pinning when possible. You turn the anvil (bottom plate) around 180 degrees and the staple will form with the tine pushed out reasonably straight instead of...
That's great! A word of caution: There is only one bobbin thread serving both needles, so if one row of stitching fails, they both fail. That being said, it is a fast and professional looking way...
No, there are several different types. The biggest difference is going to be the way that it plugs into the machine. What you've got is a Japanese clone of a Singer. You MAY be able to use a...
IMHO it depends on what your time is worth.
Many thanks to all who gave of their time and effort to make this hang a success. A very special thanks to:
Iafte, who cooked for hours and then cleaned up after dinner, as well as bringing 2...
My condolences to the Mims family, and all others who have lost someone. Positive thoughts for those who survived.
Thank you to everyone who is helping to make this event happen! You people are the best.
For those who didn't see the earlier post, we are asking everyone to bring their own mess kit to the...
Some soda would be great! I'm thinking that there will be extra, but the numbers are getting up there.
Hope that you heal well, and soon.
I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope that you are better soon.
Yes. Most folks sart with 12' of line to get a whoopie that is 6' max.
Now I'm confused! I don't know which thread you originally responded to with your offer, but it sounds like corn muffins and banana bread would go well with breakfast or dinner. I'm sure that they...
