Thanks for posting the pics and blog of the trip...I'm really glad everyone had a good time. You have no idea how worried I was that either no one would come, or that everyone would get out there...
Hope ya'll don't mind...I requested that this thread be renamed and moved into the trip report section...since this was a successful, completed hang by all accounts!
Thanks again folks...so glad...
I want to thank everyone who came out. Weasel and I had a BLAST!!! It was great sharing "our back yard" with all of you guys (and gals!).
It was great to see Walking Bear and Dudorino...
Since we're looking to stage near the trailhead at least for tonight, the lake is going to be a pretty decent distance from the campsite.
I'm leaving my water filter home for this run, and just...
Understood and agreed, my friend.
We'll try to find us a good spot...odds are we'll have quite a few experienced campers showing up all around the same time...we'll have to establish voting...
I've got a spot in mind that I think will provide good shelter...several pines in the area, and on the side of a hill, that's probably 300-400 meters from the trailhead.
It should be decent wind...
I plan on bringing a couple of gallons and keeping them in the car...usually don't have too much issues with the water freezing in the car overnight if the temps during the day get above freezing.
Totally understood, MrClean.
As it stands now, my intention is to see how it plays out through tomorrow. I've already scheduled tomorrow off, so I plan on rolling out there and tracking the...
Dude!!
We'll have a spot reserved and a comfy spot waiting. Sorry you're getting the late start, but glad you can make it out this way!
WHOOT!!
Just a few more days now. Sounds like the majority of folks are gonna be out there sometime Friday afternoon.
Weasel and I will try to be onsite by around 2pm or so if possible. ...
****'s doesn't carry climbing equipment or gear rated to be used to support people.
Pretty much the only place in town that does carry gear rated to do this is Backwoods, or Dynamic Earth just up...
Backwoods down at 135th and Metcalf carries climbing grade equipment as well. You can pick up some lighter, climbing rated carabiners and such there that you KNOW will support your weight with...
I've heard that a lot of folks use some of the cheap ratchet straps with some success. I'd say give them a try if you've got nothing else...not likely to have time to replace them before Friday at...
Just to double check...what are you using for top and bottom insulation?
It's supposed to get down to the lower 20s out there both nights, so you'll want to make sure you've got good insulation...
OK, looks like Weasel and I will be onsite sometime Friday afternoon...gonna try for as early as we can, but ya never know what the missus will come up with last minute.
Weather looks like clear...
Sounds like a plan, MrClean. It's a short walk from the area where the cars will be parked to the trailhead area where we'll camp Friday night. I'm not really trying to "plan" anything out for...
Unfortunately the timing and distance was off on that trip for me.
I was at a small gathering in NE, at the Indian Caves State Park back in October. We had a small turn out...Weasel and I,...
Come on out! Even if you don't spend the night, it looks like we're going to have a lot more folks attending than I'd guessed we would...great time to meet some new people, and learn a heck of a lot...
Walking Bear, don't worry about the wheelbarrow. We'll just put Weasel on it...it'll be good for him to work off some of that excess energy of his! :)
We'd love to have you out there, my friend!
Suggestion if you don't mind...make sure to bring plenty of insulation, and a pad or some kind of under insulation to use in the hammock.
Temps look...
Of course. This is "our" hang...we can do whatever we want...whatever (within reason of course) we think is ok.
Bring 'em along! There are plenty of spots for tents out there too...and who...

We need to be out there this weekend...it's GORGEOUS out today!!! :)
WOOT! Getting psyched up for this! Shipped my HH explorer deluxe out today to 2QZQ to get their Mod #4 done on my hammock in time for our KC hang.
Thinking we're gonna have a kick butt time!
Overkill, most likely. While I say that we're hoping it doesn't get too cold, I'm relatively confidant that we've got gear to last through pretty much anything we're likely to see.
Personally,...
Yep, that's the trailhead area. I've only camped there once...there are fire rings/campsites along the 5.5 miles of trails as well.
I was thinking that the first night we might setup at the...
Not sure what time I will be out there on Friday, also depends on when Weasel gets off work too. I will have a better idea as we get closer.
Its only about six miles around the whole loop, so...
That be the place! The gates will probably be closed so parking will probably be about where you stopped the line. Wasnt sure on the latrines and well...thanks for checking that out. Looking...

OK, there was another thread started for this, but it looks like we've got a couple of folks interested in a winter hang, this coming up Jan 14th and 15th at the Woodridge Public Use Area on Clinton...
I don't know anything about Wolf Creek, but if they've got trails and such for folks that wanna hike, that sounds awesome. Also don't know anything about how off-season camping works there, nor...
Yep, on the Stull side. Matter of fact, Stull is where you turn South on E250/Co Rd 1023. Go a couple of miles til you hit N1250, and turn left (East). It's a gravel road, so it's easy to miss. ...
I'd started this thread about nine months ago when Weasel and I first got our hammocks...so I have to admit that at this point I don't have any dates planned at this point.
Definitely open to...
Look up Clinton Lake, near Lawrenece, KS. Woodridge Public Use Area is on the western shore of the lake. It's NOT easy to find if you don't pay close attention to where you're headed, but it's well...
I've been to Indian Caves, and that was pretty cool (first 'group hang' I've been to).
I've been going to the Woodridge Public Use Area on the west side of Clinton Lake. I've verified that...
We camped out at the Woodridge Public Use Area, on the west side of Clinton Lake.
I'd never heard of it, but my son's friends were cub scouts, and they used this area both for scouting and their...
My son and I did our first hang about two weeks ago, and found a place that would be a decent area for a group hang near Lawrence, KS.
The area I'm talking about is free, I believe there are a...
