I thought the weather was going to be better, but it didn't change much. I need a night out in the yard to make sure my underquilt is adjusted right and what not. I really needed a better top quilt,...
Sorry I had to bail guys, I just didn't have confidence in my setup. I literally had gotten the hammock, tarp, and under quilt a couple days before the trip and never had a chance to "dial" it in. I...
Sounds like a plan to me...
Hope they get back to you. Think we should set a time on when we are hitting the trail, with or without people?
Huh, clear skies here in Cambridge. We just drove through Stratton on our way home from Stowe today and it was clear. If the weather holds like they are saying it should be an awesome weekend by the...
Cool, can't wait to see you and the pup tomorrow my friend! Raiffnuke and I claim our usual spot!! lol
Is the spreadsheet all up to date on who will be at the trailhead tomorrow and who will be coming Saturday?
 That's hilarious!
It will be a bit of a march to get in there, but the Stratton Pond area is going to be beautiful this weekend. Hoping for some nice bluebird skies and starry nights :)
Just don't eat beans Thursday night please
In all seriousness, if there is a group of us hiking in together we can trade off the lead trail breaker position. I don't mind doing a lot of it since I'll be missing two nights on my cycling...
Actually, new guys break trail :D
Stratton mountain is reporting 8" at their base lodge already, which is roughly at the same elevation as Stratton Pond...and still snowing. Going to be a winter wonderland!
It's a 5 mile trek in to the camping spot, in what looks like to be a lot of snow. My guess is its everyone bring their own food. I know that's my plan anyway...
If my hammock shows up that is lol
Yes, 3"-5" tonight...but another 4"-6" tomorrow. I don't want anymore snow at all lol.
Just trying to be prepared...
Basically, from the intersection of Stratton-Arlington road and Rt. 100, you follow Stratton-Arlington road all the way to the trailhead. The trailhead is very obvious, you can't miss it. It will be...
They are calling for 8"-10" in my area, so I'm guessing that Stratton Pond area is going to be seeing at least a foot or more
I love winter activities, but I'm burnt out this year. Very...
Not a problem :D
Throwing my name is as a yes for now, just awaiting some new equipment to be sure. If it comes in time, which I'm thinking it should, I will be there :)
If I have time this weekend I will shoot up for another recon hike of the area and report back how it's looking. It's one of my favorite areas to hike so I don't mind going multiple times a year :D
The trail to Stratton pond is about 3.9 from the Stratton Pond Trailhead, which won't be accessible by car at the time of this trip. You will have about a mile road walk (on a snowmobile trail) from...
Yeah, you can clearly see where the snowmobile trail starts and the trailhead for Stratton mountain is.
I was going to suggest the same place!
But, you could always just meet at the trailhead. Once you take that turn off of Rt. 100 you don't make anymore turns, so you can't miss the trailhead....
Calling for another 4"-8" of snow this week, which means 8+ up there. I'd say it will be a nice snowshoe in to the pond :)
As of today, snowshoes would be a definite requirement. I was only the second or third person through there after this latest storm so I was breaking some trail at times. I hiked the LT up Stratton...
I hiked, or should say snowshoed Stratton today and did a little recon. There is A LOT of snow up there. There is easily 2-3 feet at the elevation of Stratton Pond, and 3-4 feet or more up top. The...
That's the beginning of the spring thaw time as well, better to plan a spot as the time draws nearer. If it's really wet you will want to stay off any peaks. Just another thing to keep in mind :)
