Welcome, from just south of Nashville!
I just ordered 2 pair 6' of loop end straps from Strapworks, 4 carabiners from the local REI, and 75 ft. of 7/64th amsteel from redden marine. Made 2 full suspensions for the pair of Byer hammocks...
Would be happy to join in if i'm not working. I've been trying to talk the wife into camping up that way but we always seem to end up at her parent's place just outside Carbondale. (We were actually...
It's essentially a bungee cord with loops in it. Not safe to use as a tree strap, nor would it protect a tree from damage.
Welcome to Hammock forums.
Favorite paddling I've ever done was a 2 week stint into Quetico from BWCA. Thanks for sharing your images(especially that panorama), I wasn't as camera savvy when I went and the waterproof...
Welcome! seem to be more and more TN hammockers lately. :)
While allowing the 2 guy lines to determine bi-pod placement may initially balance load if one stake gives very much at all then all the load will quickly be transferred to the other stake possibly...
That webbing looks fine, your just starting to break it in. :)
The most common reasons I've retired webbing are, UV exposure, fraying from sharp objects(usually rocks, or damaged...
A titanium cup is just as useful as a cup today as it was several years ago.(no loss of function as it ages) Should it not be worth more on the used market now if the cost of a new titanium cup has...
you could though often I have my tarp ridge line lower than my tree straps/'biner to allow the tarp to be pitched closer to my hammock.
I sunk my 12'x6"x6" to a depth of 4' to mount a gate, I think if I were hanging a hammock I'd go at least the same depth or deeper with the post.
In my limited experience(I've only got a half dozen sleeping bags so I can't speak to all of them) most synthetic fills retain loft better after compression, Down on the other hand retains much more...
Wait 'til you see how they respond to hammocks pulled out of your porsche! :D
Thanks for the heads up, just ordered a few, been looking for a few weeks trying to spend the rest of our dividend on something I would actually use. :)
Like the video and it looks like it was a good time, though I find it hard to watch without reminding you that both the climber and belay should always have a helmet.
Always happy to see new hangers in TN, Welcome aboard.
I've frequently hung in our parking structures using an assortment of DMM stoppers wedged into gaps/cracks/expansion joints. :)
Beats the folding cots staff accommodations offers during inclement...
It's been extremely dry this year, I just got back this afternoon from the leatherwood ford area and can say that the dry stream beds can quickly become small fordings should rain fall like it did...
Well the ENO is a good fly as well but their definition of "large" in this situation and mine aren't really the same.
The ENO superfly covers 121 sqft of real estate
My MSR parawing (and the...
Well I have to say that I was quite surprised when I went to order another set of these for my experimentation to find an rather interesting 5 star review on amazon that's been there since february....
The engineering problem is the fun part, I have access to all the bits and pieces so why not try and make it work. :D
I plan to transfer a very large portion of the lateral load to a counter...
The military tent you have pictured is stout enough to hang in if you install it over a set of floorboards. I called one home for several summers when I was a bit younger, but I wouldn't drag so much...
I think you misunderstand, These are in no way comparable to toothpicks, The Kelty Tarp Poles are a 25mm x 8' 6061-T6 aluminum alloy pole that breaks down to a pack-able length (28") and weigh 2.6...
Not Photoshopped. They are located in a Camping resort in Germany. ;)

I'm 31 and have now had my "new bits" for 9 years. My shoulder seemingly has more titanium in it than my backpacking stove, and my lower back has quite the assortment of "aftermarket parts". I still...
I couldn't find an illustration of an overhand loop that I liked so I just tied and example set for you. It's my headphone cord doubled then I tied a pair of overhand knots and a figure 8 as the last...
Treestrap - to GT cord with around 4 overhand knots tied in it to make multiple lengths-then "S" hook to hammock's loop. Change which loop of the overhand knots your "S" hook connects to to lengthen...
Another thing I've done last summer at a local State park where I know the rangers is donate some of the retired climbing webbing from our scout troop to be used as loaner tree straps.(it's very...
Hammock Friendly Campgrounds Spreadsheet
The spreadsheet can be a great resource for forum members as they travel and look to hang around as some areas' parks have/enforce individual park...
I have the same poles, (the larger of the kelty poles) and will happily attempt to use them with the hammock this weekend when I go camping. I usually use them with my MSR/Moss Parawings and have...
My order arrived last night and I orderd at around noon on the 21st, but with the pile of bottles the wife ordered to make christmas gifts I was glad they were half off. It was well worth the wait.

Just ordered, Thanks for the tip OP!
Erik
Maybe it's just the eagle scout in me but I can't stand figure 9s, they charge you money and then force you to learn what is essentially their "trademarked knot" around a doodad they made up. Sure...
WOW! I ordered 60 ft. of Amsteel for my whoopies from Redden Marine on Tuesday afternoon and found it was in my mailbox yesterday(Thursday) I have rarely had a product ordered over the internet...
I was about 200 yards away when a strait line gust took out a stand of pines along a nearby ridge at 2am. They sounded like thunder when they broke and I swear I felt the trees hitting the ground,...
I think you might be thinking of http://www.warbonnetoutdoors.com/ as the link you gave is pictures of trains?
I wish I could make it to meet a few other locals, but have a happy trip!
Erik
Ratings by multiple members gets in that spreadsheet gets complicated, a colum could be added to contain the names of members who had visited a certain park and perhaps their individual ratings but...
I have searched and visited many of teh forum supporting vendors but have not found an answer. . .
Does anybody produce a Gore-tex shelled down underquilt? or can anyone recommend a particular...
I guess I'm crazy but I remember 12'x12' tarps made from canvas that weighted 40 lbs when wet and took a small army to pitch in the rain. That's all I have to think about and I feel perfectly happy...
I added the 3 I camped in last week, as for another suggestion for columns Latitude and longitude would be a great addition for some of the more obscure sites as they can be plugged into a GPS to...
Hi,
