Perfect timing because I've been wanting something better for my tarp. Order placed. Thank you very much.

Hi Butdusty,
At your height, most of the Amazon stuff is going to be too short. 11-foot long is what you need, and that's 11 feet of FABRIC, not counting the suspension length as some do on that...
Several folks I've hiked with have HG DCF tarps and speak highly of them, but if you're open to other fabrics than DCF, I've been happy with my Hammock Gear Quest tarp. I've got the 12 foot...
Rather than address your specific question, let me suggest that the first thing you need to own is Derek Hansen's book, "The Ultimate Hang." For new hangers it will answer questions you haven't yet...
Outstanding news! I love to see cooperation and symbiosis between two of my favorite vendors, and hope that the cross pollination helps sales for both of you guys. :D
This may be a little wide of the mark in terms of what you're asking, but the price is well within your budget and meets the criteria of removable, easier and lighter than the bottom entry bugnet:...
Hi Dewaine and welcome to the forums. Getting out of a gathered end hammock is made easier with a structural ridgeline if you can reach up and grab it. Some hammocks can also be made with pull...
For discrete changing, a tarp can be your friend. The hammock itself can also shield you from prying eyes to some extent and be used as a seat. Best is to camp with reasonable people who will give...
I'm a hammock bigot, not a hammock snob. :shades:
Well said, Cabmanhang.
For someone who claims not to know what he was doing, that looks like you had fun doing it. :)
Heading into the cooler weather, you're sure to have fun testing it too. Nicely done.
Welcome to the madness that is hammock camping.
Cheers.
To clarify, are you offering the rain fly AND the hammock, or just the rain fly?
I'm partial to the Sipsey Wilderness area in Alabama which is wonderful for hammock camping. I've been there in February, December and April. Water is usually abundant and there are enough trails...
Living and hiking mostly in Georgia, my underquilt is the AHE Jarbidge 3-season version and top quilt is the JRB Hudson River. These will cover probably 80-90 percent of what I do and where I go. ...
Yep, saw that one on Evan's Backpacker Comics Instagram page too. Guilty.
For my gathered end hammock, the whoopie slings are larks-headed onto the continuous loops on each end and stay with the hammock. I usually leave at least part, if not all, of the whoopie sling...
Reading over your list, my honest opinion is that you're already fairly lightweight. The only way to cut weight is to buy replacement gear that's fairly expensive. For instance, you could get a DCF...
Small bites of the apple, I guess, are the only alternative. Another reason to leave the lawmakers out of it is that, based totally on my subjective experience talking to the few DNR people I run...
Some of the DIY crowd might want to do this. Or to be more truthful, I HOPE some of our talented DIYers toss out a few photos as an antidote to the mass market stuff that's probably going to show up...
Hi Kydawg, and welcome to the forums from a guy slightly east and south of you here in Georgia.
I'd prefer to leave the legislature out of it. A political arena is generally not going to give you the best results. It might be useful to educate DNR personnel instead, though you're going to run...
That third photo looks really good, like it'll keep you warm into the 50s certainly and maybe into the 40s. Have fun experimenting.
In line with what leiavoia said, I seem to recall an older Shug video in which he goes into his whipping technique on the old green bean hammock. I can't find it, but there's this one which...
What OCDave said. Several years back, once I figured this hammock addiction was going to stick, I told somebody that my ultimate goal was to own and use gear from as many DIFFERENT vendors as...
Glad you joined up, Smige01. And you're right about splicing amsteel being addictive.
Cheers.
Here's a few more data points -

In addition to JRB, who make fine quilts, there's also Arrowhead Equipment, with their Potomac which is purpose-built for Hennessey:

That has been my experience as well, having purchased one pack, one hammock and one quilt from members here. It's also probably a good idea to look back at the closed/sold threads to research the...
No idea that Rick had written a book at all, so I learned something (as always). Good interview.
Your pad will keep your backside warm just fine in those temps. The disadvantage to the pad is that it can be difficult to stay on top of it inside the hammock, but like many others, I used a pad...
In addition to those already mentioned, (Hammock Gear and Dutchware) look at the offerings from Dream Hammock and Warbonnet, both of which usually garner enthusiastic reviews from people who own...
My experience is not exactly analogous because my bridge hammock isn't a Ridgerunner, but since it's a bridge it's going to be somewhat similar. I've successfully used a 20 x 20 inch piece of closed...
Forum member Just Bill makes bridge hammocks for larger folks. Send him a PM and he may be able to help you out. Or see his website:

That's an ambitious project and looks amazing. Cool name for it too.
I've noticed that the weird straggling seams and drunk-looking stitching on my DIY underquilt doesn't affect its warmth. Plus nobody can see it at night anyway, so enjoy your work.
Cheers.
Welcome to the forums, shichimi. If you can make a whoopie, you can hang a hammock (or make one).
Cheers.
Her expressions in both photos - priceless :)
Welcome to the forums from another guy in the Southeast.
Selectively quoting for brevity.
Probably yes, that's close to the limit IMO. To give a few more details: I was using my bridge hammock that night and added the underquilt protector to help seal...
(Slaps self in head)
Doh! That's an excellent suggestion. Rather than switching to synthetic insulation, get an underquilt protector. I should have mentioned that I added one to my kit this year...
You may be new to it, but you're going about it the right way: wringing out what you have and learning by experience. If you've got a pad already, try that in the hammock. It'll work, though it's...
In the not so recent past before I owned an underquilt, I went through a similar thought process. Since I live and camp in Georgia for the most part, my thought was that humidity would affect down...
Their suggestion to replace the suspension is overkill, probably for liability reasons, and is not necessary if the only "damage" is frayed ends. As others have suggested, slice off the frayed...
Just hangin' out, eh? :)
It's almost certainly a gap between hammock and underquilt somewhere. Most likely spot for gaps, at least for me, is on the foot end but it can happen on the head end as well as demonstrated by the...
Interesting piece of work and maybe unique. Good photos too.
Your hang looks not all that shabby. The only thing I notice, especially in photo #4, is that the hammock is not centered under the tarp. I realize that the hammock must be closer to the left...
You hit the jackpot with timing the sale. Enjoy.
If it's just a suspension failure or loss, I carry a 3 ounce bag that includes enough bits and pieces to make up a spare suspension.
Otherwise, assuming the hammock itself totally failed and...
