Zpacks also makes an asym diamond you could check out. I think the dimensions were the same
11ft 1.0 hexon halfwit about 10 oz
2.2 kevlar straps w/dynaglide whoopies w/ hooks about 2 oz
zpacks standard hammock tarp about 7oz
DIY climashield TQ 2.5 Argon .67 with a double layer torso...
I am about 230, 5'9" and love my 1.0. It has far less stretch than hyperD and about the same as argon 1.6 - if you know the feel of those. It, also, is incredibly comfortable fabric.
To piggyback on your thread-does anyone know how it rehydrated with cold water?

An entertaining blog from a hammocker last year
I have heard that down itself is hypoallergenic and the allergy is from the mixed in flight feathers. If so, higher fill power quilts may help.
Two other notes:
I use an insulating pillow for my head so the uq only need hit shoulders and I am laying at an angle to the uq orientation which also makes it functionally longer.
I'm about 230. My diy holds me fine and is comfortable. It is stretchier than I like but I have no doubt that I could sleep in it nightly for a long time.
They are very nice at illustrating the features. They also make me want one of your quilts even more.
I have used braided Mason's line for guy lines and as a tarp ridgeline. It is plenty strong for these purposes
It is a synthetic panel of climashield. It is not baffled. It does not need them to loft.
I am 230-235. My Argon 1.6 SL DIY and Hexon 1.0 Half-wit are both plenty supportive and plenty comfy.
that is freakin' awesome - thanks for sharing
The shoefly pie may be good, but you probably want to stay away from the used pop-rocks :)
Until you lay in it, the larks head does come loose easily, afterward, not so much.
I pinned newspaper in the sandwich. Fabric, fabric, apex, newspaper and then pulled out the paper after the sewing was done.
If bugs are not likely an issue:
Hammock 1/2 pound-ish
20 degree TQ = a little over a pound
20 degree 3/4 UQ = a little over a pound
cuben fiber tarp = about 1/2 pound, other material = 12-16 oz...
I believe it freezes solid as well.
Most nights, get in camp at near dark, eat, and hang bear bag. If I have trouble falling asleep or tire of my own company, listen to recorded Grateful dead show very quietly in headphones.
AHE Shangri la with stakes and cordage = 13 oz
Dutch halfwit hexon 1.0 = 10oz
2 diy apex/argon quilts that take me to the low 40s (so far, I only camp in summer)
11 oz for TQ, 12 oz for UQ
Kevlar...
gorgeous! That is friggin awesome
For summer and shoulder weight quilts, I have a bishop bag that holds both quilts and hammock all together. I need to make it bigger so that the package can deform to fit better with other things. ...

in non-bug season, flip it over.
can't comment on durability, but my 1.0 hexon holds my 230lbs quite comfortably. I love the feel of the fabric.
It is definitely possible.

She has great discussions for the PCT and AZT
I am using kevlar > dynglide slings w/hooks > dynaglide CLs. I do not have enough time in yet to comment on long-term use.
I thought about kevlar> mule tape > CLs. I think I like the water break...
I have enough stuff that I could leave tomorrow and be fine. I hope to save enough to change out my backpack and tarp before summer.
In case it helps, this is where I am at in trying to figure...
I wish I could help you with your quest for the right hammock. The only commercial hammock I have been in is my dutchware hexon 1.0 halfwit. I do like the fabric more than the hyperD 1.0 and the...
When I heard your plan I wondered if you were a teacher. Your Masters program pretty much says you are. I am too and am also planning on a 9 week walk this summer if the planets align and all the...

I personally have no info to contribute, but look forward to other's comments.
I used .67 argon and could not be happier. It has been plenty durable. I expect it will last years. With climashield, even if it were to rip, it would not be a huge deal. It would still work...
Bumping Hammonkey's question and wondering if we have more data for this design's performance. I have ripped the horizontal seems and gathered the down, but I am wondering too if 6 10" tubes would...
I, too, am in northern va. The sterling store had them right before christmas (I am not sure now). When they first stocked them, they were with the bedding. Last time I was in, they were with the...
I have not tried yet, but in theory the halfwit can be flipped over to have the bugnet completely out of the way in winter
My planned kit for a summer walk from GA to WV:
1.0 hexon halfwit (dutchware): 10 oz
Kevlar tree straps, whoopsie hooks, dynaglide whoopies: 2.5 oz
DIY uq argon .67 apex. 12 oz
Diy tq. ". ...
Luke's ultralight argon wind pants.
Costco throw
My stocking (Santa/Chanukah Harry looked a lot like Dutch):
25 ft dynaglide
1 yd argon .67 to make a bishop bag to fit hammock and quilts...
I made a climashield one that I don't like very much. I have a lot of extra space in my cdt so I have been experimenting bringing various plastic packaging you get when you mail order stuff nowadays...
Hehe I was going to say the burgers too, but the hammock won by a teeny margin.
Hexon half-wit
thank you guys for the responses
I just received 100lb fishing line I ordered off of amazon.

When I bought it, I was thinking...
in ridgeline bag: water bottle, glasses, loop with lighter, photon light, mini swiss knife, whistle
in hammock: phone w/headphones
thank you guys for this - very helpful
thanks for some great ideas
Check out arrowhead equipment's setups.
My wife and I are driving up from northern VA - looks like it will be a nice day for drive...
these are gorgeous. Please let us know how low they can go. How recently were you able to find quilts at costco? - my local ones are sold out.
Thank you for sharing. Jeremy's run was my first-ever hang spot. It is a wonderful place.
Any chance there will be demo hammocks? I have only been in my DIY hammocks - I am curious to see if a real hammock lays the same.
