Rail is a good option if you want to start in the lower portion of the park. Our dropoff was 50miles north of Allenwater as the crow flies (northern portion of the park). That's a good distance in...

The HG 10 degree is "marvelous"! I have an econ 20, a premium 10, and 3/4 length 20 all from HG. Below freezing, I'd go with the 10. I hate waking up because my underside is chilly.
My son and I are doing an 8-day paddle out of Sawbill starting on the 10th. Looks like I'll be bringing the 20 deg stuff :) FUN!
anyone using a 40 deg underquilt. I have a 10 and 20 already and I'm wondering what temps you've taken the 40 down to. I know everyone is different but just trying to get some input. I'm not a...
The Kawishiwi area is stunning!
The best memory of my trip was crossing paths with a 70-year-old grandma who was going solo. I asked her how long was she going to be out for and she said 14+ days...
I got the boat 20% off. I was searching and found one in Cincinnati that was sitting around for a year. BWCA is a wonderful place to visit whether it be hiking or canoeing. As soon as I got back a...
I'm an ultralight backpacker and the "scope creep" did me in on this trip. I probably had 8 to 10 pounds in fishing gear that I really didn't need or use. Lures, pans, knives, oil.... Next time...
I'll have to look into that one... Order placed
It was roughly 1100 miles nonstop. I was pumped to get there and once I hit Duluth I knew I was almost there. My recommendation - Always download google maps for offline usage. The last 90 minutes...
Granite Gear, Quetico 5000 Portage Pack. I have a Hyperlite Mountain Gear 70 liter but I don't want to beat that to hell and back.
Trip was coming to and end and again time to move. This time retracing my route and getting a site a few hours from the truck on Polly Lake. This was a 5 star site with plenty of tent pads, the...
After two days on Malberg it was time to move to another site a few miles away. The goal for this trip was no so much as miles but just enjoying the scenary and getting away solo.

I walked right beside him. Too many years in the Army has done a job on my hearing. I really didnt heat the rattle until I stopped and listened for it. By that time I was about 3 feet away and he...
Took a good friend and his girl on trip to the Quehanna Trail in Moshannon/Elk State forest. This was the 1st time I used my Raven hammock from Dream Hammocks. Gotta say its the best sleep I've had...
I've been there at least 3 times and never had an issue with my sawyer filters. I always use them even when the temp is below freezing at night and never ran into a problem.
I have a good friend who doesn't have a hammock system (all the gear) who wants to get started in hanging. Anyone have a system they want to sell or point me to a cottage seller who you'd recommend...
I'm hoping there will be some good Chili receipes coming ? I used the "Schill Brothers" receipe on my recent hang in Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario. Was a BIG hit.
Just spent a few nights at dolly sods and had a great trip but I'm finding it difficult to sometimes find flat spots and would like to camp in areas that are not overly used. I'll keep my cuben...
I live 30 mins from the Seven Springs area and have hiked portions of this trail starting at the southern trail head. Best time would be your late October or early spring. Coming from Johnstown...
