What did you use for the toggles? I have crushed punky wood in my MSH. Good sound sticks, tent pegs, nails and even used a screwdriver in a pinch, all with good results.

I have used a HH Monsoon/Typoon tarp as a ground shelter before with good results. It did rain but nothing torrential or with heavy winds. I also had a USGI Goretex bivy to keep my bedding dry.

Mesh snaleskins would allow for the same quick and easy setup/takedown but still allow for quick drying if they do get wet or damp. They wouldn't be as robust though.
