Mods, please feel free to delete, but there is definitely some hammocking in the video!
I take My girlfriends oldest on his first ever backpacking trip. It was also his first time in a hammock and...
It was great to be back out. Needed the time to myself. I'll be doing more solos once it cools down. The woods are medicine to me and I've been feeling a great need for it as of late.
For me they were certainly worth it. They only weigh about 5oz and free up my trekking poles for porch mode. Porch mode is my favorite and is definitely worth the 5oz weight penalty.
Thank you! Definitely motivated me to get a lot more hiking in. Got to up my stamina to get through rough sections like that if I want to thru hike it!
The turkey and I both got a wake up call  funny thing was it's path of escape was further down the trail so it must have thought I was after it for sure :scared:
Got out last Thursday for a little solo overnight adventure. I got back on the Knobstone Trail and did the Leota-Elk Creek section as it was the next section going North I hadn't backpacked yet. ...
Moving my images here since Photobucket has apparently gone rogue :scared:

Not hodad, but we have similar base weights. I'd love to see a gear list as well. I can't seem to...
I see Xero shoes mentioned a lot, I'm going to be taking a hard look at their options. I have a pair of Lems Primal 2s coming in this week to use for casual/after work/weekend wear to help keep my...
I've been doing a LOT of stretches and practice foot strengthening exercises all throughout the day. I bought and tried several of the superfeet insoles but they mostly made it worse in my case. I...
If I'm naked in the woods, I won't be the only thing that's afraid! :scared::lol:
It's definitely been a wake up call to take things like stretching and listening to my body more seriously....
I actually just got some PF compression sleeves in, not sure if it's similar to the Voodoo floss but I'm going to be checking it out!
There were definitely several times on this hike I would have...
I never pictured myself being the outdoors barefoot type, but the pain from PF drove me to trying some pretty crazy things after the majority of conventional methods were actually making things...
I've since tried to move away from elevated heels and tight toe boxes. I've also been going barefoot a lot more to help let my feet flex and move to get them stronger. I have a pair of Lems coming...
I know a lot of podiatrist recommend custom orthotics for something like plantar fasciitis. I read a lot of evidence saying that strengthening the feet is a better long time cure for it. Didn't want...
My right foot hurt the longest, but a couple weeks ago I noticed it starting in both feet, hence why I became more aggressive at treating it. As my feet get stronger, the pain gets less intense. The...
So to start off with the "why?" I've been fighting with plantar fasciitis for several months now. Hiking was obviously exacerbating the issue so I decided to really buckle down and do some research....
Excellent part 2! That definitely looked like some hard walking. And I don't just mean physically. Glad to see you all were able to keep your spirits up and keep yer grit through all the brush and...
Looked like a tough trail that one. Can't wait for part 2!
Got my set in from Ruta Locura today. Must have been a slow day because they shipped them out the same day I got the invoice for them. :boggle: 5.5oz
...
Call me a maybe. I won't know for sure until it gets a bit closer to the hang but I'm going to try.
I know the struggle... I've placed 3 different orders in about the last 2 weeks :scared: Now seriously considering adding a half wit or chameleon for summer backpacking... Going to be hard to take a...
Aaaaand ordered a pair. Think I'm going to like these over the kevlar straps :boggle:
I'll second that vote! I get my next batch of vacation days starting the 25th and a full weekend would be great.
Putting Sam down was one of the hardest decisions I've had to make, but I know it was for the best... You'll love it when it does get there. The work on this thing is excellent and, I feel, money and...
Finally freed up some time to play around with my new WWM. Video takes a look at it and I give my initial thoughts and impressions. It truly is worth the wait and is a magnificent piece of art. I...
Got my shipping notice. Thanks! Looking forward to trying out this long awaited beauty!
+1 on enjoying your trip!
I'll second an update... Ordered my WWM and Nano Buginator on 05/08.. sent an email requesting an update and recieved no response... 10 weeks is a bit longer than the...
Thankee for the vids Shug. Got me excited and missing the trail... My overnight at a campground last weekend just didn't feel the same. The quiet and sounds of the loons on the lake brought a peace...
Being a warm sleeper I usually just don't use any under insulation at all. I find the nice cool feeling underneath aids rather than hinders my sleep... Maybe wrap a blanket around me if I need to. ...
I've had to "sleep" in beds/couches a few times in the past year while traveling/out of town etc... Never really got a good rest and had to have Iburprofen or some such to help with the stiffness and...
Thanks! May be the easiest "accomplishment" I've had in my life  I wish your own journey many comfortable nights and lots of caught up (or at least better) sleep! I do have to warn you though,...
Site selection (ie: near water, etc...) Small fan on the ridgeline helps. Sleep in less. Give yourself a good wipedown with a baby wipe before bed so the evaporation from the alcohol can help jump...
For all the above reasons, and to this day I still have fun repeating "on the knot, not the toggle." :D I use the MSH for my tarp stakes as well. Just handy to have in the ol' toolbox'o'knots.
For reference, I ordered my WWM on 05/08 and still haven't received a shipping notice. (from what I understand they've been all sorts of swamped though)
Glad to bring a chuckle to yer gullet this morn'! :D
It took a lot of practice to get to that level of lollygaggin'.... Thank you for watching :)
I'll have to make a point to hit up the...
A good friend and I sleepily head towards Otter Creek Park after our nightly shift. We enjoyed some hotdog enchilada's by the creek, then got a little bit of hiking in. We didn't do many miles, but...
I've enjoyed several backyard hangs as well. The fresh air really makes a difference!
Wasn't a hard accomplishment to reach! The hammock did all the motivating! It was a bit weird the first...
Welp, today marks the one year anniversary of the day I disassembled my bed and replaced it with a hammock stand and my DIY tablecloth hammock! :woot: It's been a heck of a ride and I don't think I...
Excellent report and thanks for sharing! You have a beard well fit for the woods sir! :woot:
Hanging inside I use, like, 3 pillows (one of those squishy pillows under the head, a full size pillow under the knees, and another one that just kinda floats around where I want it) Out on the trail...
Peace, prayers and condolences to all of his family...
Switch to a hammock full time! You learn real quick how to get in an out. Especially when you're half asleep and the alarm is on the other side of the room...
Excellent photos and report! Had me smiling and feeling like I was right out there with ya! I've also been known to pick less than practical sites for the views before :woot:
Welcome from Ky! Sounds like you're already off to a great start! :woot: Upgrading to a cuben tarp was one of the best decisions I made for my pack. You'll only cry for a little bit not regret it...
Congratulations!! :D Wish I was closer to attend... I'll settle for hanging out with all the Dutch bling I've ordered from ya (and the amsteel, the zing-it, the straps... etc etc :) )
The conclusion to my three days of R&R back in McSnorterson's Valley... Morn' comes to camp. Lollygagging and shenanigans ensues... Pork tenderloin! Juggling! Another night out in the woods... The...
I think what value the tree straps have are heavily negated by the big white tarp and burgundy hammock  Took a lot of practice and some shady utterences to the tree spirits to get my setup that...
I get to return to Snorty McSnorterson's valley (the home of my ol' snorty mcsnortin' friend who kept me up both nights last time I was down there and had me cheeks puckered when he false charged my...
