The last trip to the jungles of Borneo I made with a Warbonnet Traveler (double layer) with a separate bug net. Worked really well for me.
On the same trip there was people with Hennessy Deep Jungle...
That mosquito which managed to sneak inside the bug net before I closed it. That annoying buzzing hovering close to my ear when I'm trying to fall asleep. You can only hear it as long as you don't...
I've gone through this thread 3 times now, and I still cannot understand the reason for your question.
So, why is it so important for you to know how fast (or slow) putting up camp is (hammock or...
If the shortest length you need is indeed 28.8-29", then there are a fair few Leki flicklock models you could choose from.

All of the...
These are the most compact ones that I have experience with. 19.7" in the fully collapsed length, so still slightly longer than the desired 19.5"....
Flicklocks and camera mount.

Very, very expensive though (Note that you can't buy this in pairs = the price given is for...
I've used the Woodsman X quite a bit the last couple of years.
I've got the DL version.
Comparing it to the Hennessy Hyperlite Assym Zip, I much prefer the Woodsman X. Easier to get the mosquito...
I like both
Great tip for people lying with straight(-ish) legs.
But I don't want to do that.
I'm a side sleeper, pulling up my knees. Kind of fetal position. I need the foot end of the TQ to be loose so that...
I use one of the Exped Dreamwalkers.

Hiker.
Definitely a hiker.
Getting a bit homesick from that video.
Driven down that very road too many times.
I prefer having one side black.
More efficient for when you need to dry out the quilt in the field (in the sun).
Excellent that you could get out in the woods and enjoy pruny feet, mosquitoes and bog water one last time before the summer working season starts.
Have a great tour and come back with more vids...
Nope, it didn't
Marvellous! Just marvellous!
Makes me want to hit the woods straight away!
Man, watching this second instalment of your hike made me HUNGRY!!
Off to the kitchen...
Thanks very much for the help with the measuring, Shug.
I much appreciate it.
Now I know a Large would be too big for me.
Good to see you out in the woods again, Shug, knee and all doing good.
Having had 3 knee surgeries myself, I know how good it feels when that first test hike just works.
Curious about that pack...
Any chance the water could have traveled down the suspension onto/into your hammock?
Yep, the weather is still toying with us, not wanting to let proper spring/summer loose in the mountains. I don't know if you've seen any news of it, but there are severe floodings in the centre of...
Oh, if you're staying in Frutigen and have a 9 year old with you, I think the Kandersteg to Oeschinensee loop tour would suit. It's nearby Frutigen, not too hard (they reckon it's a 5 hour walk in...
What you shouldn't miss is the day hike along the Aletsch glacier, then cross the hanging bridge at the foot of the glacier to get down to tree level where you'll be able to find a place to sling...
His tarp is too short for most hammocks.
We had a guy using this tarp on a Borneo trip last year. His hammock (a DD Hammock Travel, a 9-footer) got soaked already on the first night because the ends...
I've seen first hand what happens to a forest if productivity is the only driving force to "keep" a forest.
Borneo. Logging and palm oil plantations. Not a pretty sight...
My sincere condolences.
Also having lost my father 20 years too early. I know what you're going through, Jen.
Stay with family, things are easier to carry that way.
Are the cold spots on top or underneath you?
If they appear on top, then down clothing might help. Also, if you're not already wearing a hat, wearing one will definitely help.
If the cold spots...
I'm 5'10", using 9ft as well as 10ft hammocks. Prefer the 10ft ones. Never used an 11ft hammock, so don't know if I'd notice a difference.
Remove the (green) strings on the uq sides if you don't need/want them. They're just there to be thrown over a ridge line to pull the uq to a more snug fit if needed.
Attach the uq bungees to your...
You won't be disappointed.
The Edge is a great tarp that has kept me safe and dry on a fair few occasions.
I have the Mamajamba. Brandon is using the same system on the ridgeline for that as on the Superfly.
Never had a drop come through it. Not even during horrific downpours in the rainforest of Borneo....
Welcome to HF!
Brandon ships to Europe, so all you have to do is to add the WBBB of your choice to the shopping cart.
I live in Switzerland, and had no problems at all getting my WBBB shipped to...
Stormcrow of HammockGear fame is hiking the AT right now.
Using only down insulation, I believe, and doing very well with it.
On the AT last year, there was a bunch that didn't use any UQ at all for a large part of the trail. It was hot and humid enough as it was.
Hey, it even has the nice fringe along the edges to stop the under butt draft. That's one of the great things I like with my Brazilian. :)
Woodland Edge made that UQ before Snugpak overtook the production and sales of it.
So, if I'm being picky, it's actually the original UQ by Woodland Edge.
If I'm not being picky, it's exactly the...
You've very welcome to it.
Happy Hanging!! :)
Just tie the shock cords at each short end of the UQ to the hammock suspension where it enters the hammock fabric. If the UQ sags too much, attach the shock cords a bit further out on the suspension....
That looks like an excellent piece of kit.
Good execution of a good idea!
Good luck, Stormcrow. Will be following you on the web.
And good luck to you too, Thorwren. Handling the shop by your own and probably having to do some logistics stuff for Stormcrow in between as...
On a 2 week stint in the Sarawak rainforest of Borneo, I used only a fleece blanket for insulation. I did bring an underquilt (a KAQ Lost River 1 season), but it was simply too warm with an...
Hey Dutch253
I sent you a pm
+1 on the UK Hammocks.
I've got the Woodsman X (double) and it's fantastic.
If you're looking for a bargain hammock, though, the Woodsman X (double) costing £125 might be on the expensive side.
You can get very good, fairly cheap hammocks at ukhammocks as well.
I like the Warbonnet stuff sack sizes.
My icy cold hands prefers when I don't have to squeeze something into a tight stuff sack.
And a more spacious stuff sack will allow me to fill my backpack in...
I only use a double layer to keep the mozzies out in temps 75+
Never found the need for an uq at those temps.
If you want to have something you can actually use out there in the piny woods, you can only have two of the above at the same time. But not three...
It's a horrible truth.
Isn't the idea of overstuffing down insulation just to compensate for down escaping through seams and fabric? I.e. more of a thing to give the garment / quilt a longer life in the promised insulating...
Another one signing up for the 10' version. 1.1 dbl layer pleeeeeze
