Knock there socks off Stairguy !
Will see you there .
I use both the Winter Wren and Exped Dreamwalker as a pod system and have had good luck with both.
Easy in, easy out.
Top quilt, under quilt in one.
Can move around in the hammock and not feel...
I'm with Bill, I only have to use it once in my life time to make it worth it to carry. But I will add learn how to use it and use it well before you need it.
The time to learn how to...
I have to agree with above. I have used Hilleberg products for years in the deep cold as well as many others have and feel they are top notch gear.
As far as the added weight I think it is worth it...
I have found there supension system to be my favrite. Have used it now for over 3 years with my Exped Scout Combi. I have used and tryed all the systems over the years down to -30 and found the...
I'm with stairguy.
That may be what they say. It's a spun polyester with not that reflective of a surface. So it may breath alright but is flimsy and both Mors I felt on a recent course not worth the cost to benfit...
Good for a emergency. If used for a insulation layer you will wake up with horrible condesation.
Alot of good consul on this sight.
The best I can say is get good at summer camping (grade school)
Get good at late spring early fall ( high school)
Get good at early spring, late fall (...
Here's a photo my friend Jeff from Northwoods Survival in Canada sent me.
It seems one of he's sled dogs has started hammocking !
The word has even spread to the dogs !
Hope it works out well for you all !
Sorry folks. I'm going to be unable to attended.
Unexpected business demands.
Have to cut hay while the sun is shinning !
Hope everyone has a great hang !
DAM9DX = Exped Down Air Mattress # 9DX
It's a 3,5" thick air mattress with down in it as a insulator.
If you go on the Ergo Hammock I'd use Dam9DX, on other hammocks I think a under quilt would...
Good luck on your adventure ! Looking forward to seeing you at Trail Days .
Sounds great Mac !
Looking forward to the video.
The one that Mors has the skeeter net at 14" x 26" wide.
Also you just make the side opening large anuff to crawl in between the layers
for bug protection.
Slipe a pad in for insulation.
In the Exped Ergo, hanging in the hammock.
Good start Mac !
I think if you make the bug net window larger as the traditional "Mors Scarf"
has and also add some tabs for staking to use as a bivy bag your well on your way to a winner.
I also have found it is not as comfertable without a mat.
I found a wide 24" + long + thick mat works best.
With the insulation of your mat a under quilt is not needed.
I have sleepet down...
Looks great ! Thanks for the work on this Snipen.
I'll be there and if there is going to be any other kids I may bring my 11 year old grand son.
I'll let "Trail Hoss" know. He's a hammock convert now you know ?
I'll be there for the day friday. Just visting , then I'll be off with my friend Mike
on he's new mountain property by Mount Rgers for some hanging & muling around.
Great review ! Thanks Chuck. I have to agree with most of your points.
Great concept, great workmanship. Just needs a bit of twiking.
Would not advise one for anyone taller then 5' 9" or heaver...
Ice Age Trail sounds good to me, I'll be at Trail Days 18th and muling around Mt Rogers the rest of that weekend. But open for other weekends.
Things I learnt over and above what we were taught;
Its impossible to drink enough fluid or eat enough food. Getting as much as possible in is the goal.
If you can't make a lifesaver fire or...
I have found for myself as other I have showing . That when the refective
surface is just below themselfs with clothing on.
Have not had condensation problems by sleeping directly on the pad.
Your modified pea pod looks great ! If you can find a xtra wide and long works best. Put a draw string at the foot end.
I use as thick a foam windshield garde for a pickup truck.
There 26" x 60"....
Down mats I have found work real well.
Exped will be having a new DAM UL 7 out this March 2012 , it will weigh
only 26,5 oz . 1lb lighter then the DAM 9LW, 12,5 oz lighter then the
DAM 7 LW (77,5...
Sorry to hear that. I can't say why.
It will only be avaible as a combi with tarp.
There would be no problem to deploy the tarp before hand . You would just need two seprate added lines.
I will be carring it and now taking preorders for late March delivrery.
I have them made special order from Wiggys. If you would like to try one I see you are in Apple Valley so your welcome to come up and try one.
It's a sleep system that can be used as a pod, sleeping bag and bed quilt.
This video explains it better;
Thanks, I don't leave home without one.
There would be no problem to sleep on your stomach, side and back.
Here's a short video on use of a foamcore truck windshield garde used
in the hammock sleep system.
With cotton you will have less, but still some. I would rather have frost on the in side of sock then in my insulation layers.
That is the problem with having a tarp. In a day or two you can have...
I'm in total in aggrement. It elimintes all the weak links of the disjointed parts.
Glad to hear it went so well for you.
Once you go pod you can't go back !!
The suggestins I make on the Speers Peapod are to make a great system only better for the deep cold.
I added 16oz of down to my Speers Peapod.(2oz per chamber).
I used a foam core reflective...
The two LG650 Dreamwalkers ?, the Dreamwalker comes in two sizes Medium & Large and two weights 450 grams of down and 650 grams of down.
The Wiggy bags are special order, not a stock item. Call...
The Dreamwalker works great as is. If you use the back elastic from the hood and attach to headend of hammock.
Cinch face of hood shut and then rotate bag.
Open one of the arm holes, place over...
