It has a hood thing sewn at the end where the gather comes together. Yes it can be changed you need to flip it inside out on the end to get a clear view of what is going on.

If you get an 11' dangerbird get the extra zipper sliders on both the over cover and the bug net. I did both sides after the fact. If it was available when I ordered it I would have gotten it
It's an asymmetrical shape so either head by the zipper one way or feet by the zipper the other way. Try zipper and head to the left side first . Then see what you like first
