I did collegiate west when I started in 21 but the altitude was too much. Got to the 3rd pass and hitched to the east route. Flying out of New Orleans and hiking over a 12,500 pass the next day...
No snow but I went in late July or Sugust every time.
Trail towns were fun. Meet up with hikers and have burgers and beer. I stopped in Breckenridge, Salida, Lake City for resupply. Silverton was...
Sort of an unusual way to fall and hurt my foot the way I did. I'll see if I can explain it.
Walking down a nice trail 18" wide and in good condition. Uphill to left downhill to right. Came to a...
I had an easier time finding trees to hang from than many had finding flats spots for tents.

I started in 2017. Waterton Park to Twin Lakes. 170 something miles. 2021 went back did Twin Lakes to Molas Pass. 240 miles.
Back last month and hiked north from Durango to Molas Pass final 75...
That's the one I was looking at. Any one you would recommend.

Looking to do a 50-60 mile trip starting at High Point NJ and ending in NY.
Do you have to camp near shelters in NJ?
I imagine hammocks are allowed.
Found a list of shuttle drivers. Would...
Going to put some grippy tires on next year. I was a little worried if it rained getting out on the dirt roads would have been a true adventure.

Picked up a used Honda 500x a month ago. Mostly to have a little fun and do some camping exploring.
This was about a 3 hour ride to the campground in Kisatchie National forest. No hiking just...
Coming from Louisiana, so that's a little farther east but may work. Thanks.

Do I need 2" straps for Florida State Forest. I think State...

We camped at Two Medicine and Many Glacier campgrounds. Many trees in the campsites to choose from. Also fire rings and the store sells firewood, chocolate and wine(Mrs Dust was happy after that)
They both pretty awesome. I have a 0 degree wookie and 20 degree yeti.
If I did more camping than hiking I would stick with the Yeti just to save pack space. The weight isn't that bad. Yeti can...
I will be in southeast Ohio for work and have a weekend free. Any good spots in western West Virginia to hike a few miles a day and hang a hammock. Doesn't need to be a long trail, 10 miles a day...
You are welcome to put whatever you want. I have a personal goal of hammocking in all 50 states so this is a way for me to keep track. :)

Love it. I'm building something similar this spring. I might get two hammock chairs to hang from it when I'm not stretched out.
After visiting Delaware this summer I've only got AK and Hawaii to visit to have seen all 50 states. Planning on a somewhat short trip(7 days) to Alaska maybe Juneau.
Any good hammocking spots...
I hang my stuff sack with poop kit from the zipper of my blackbird. Keeps the bugnet just tight enough to be off face.
Maybe hang something like that from the net. Doesn't need much weight.

Thanks ya'll. That gives us a few options weather dependent.
https://goo.gl/maps/usfFSkNS3h5HcD1K6 is this the Winding Stairs trailhead? having trouble locating on Google Maps.
I like the idea of doing that area last but will keep an eye on the rain.
Been wanting to hike this three trail loop for a few years now finally put it on the schedule next month.
Best trailhead to park?
Clockwise or CC?
Is it the Little Missouri River crossing...
The only night I had to sleep on the ground was the 35 mile stretch that was all above 12K' between Lake City and Silverton. Absolutely no trees in sight.
Other than that I had my pick of trees...
Congratulations Two Speed!!
Did the Pemi loop a few years ago clockwise also. Camped at the Liberty Springs campsite first night then found a spot just past South Twin peak to camp.
One of my favorite hikes I’ve ever done.
Is there a trekking pole mod for the spreaders.
I’ve done a marlin spike hitch on the tree straps close to the tree. Attach tarp suspension to that. I do this when in campgrounds so the thin tarp suspension doesn’t cut into tree bark.
Wish I...
I’m 6’ and use the regular BB. 99% of my trips are backpacking so the shorter hammock is lighter and just as comfortable as my 11’ hammock.
I don’t tie it out. Just hang something light (normally...

I got there so late just found a dirt road to pull off and slept in car. It was after midnight. I could have camped in Natural Bridges because there were only 3 campsites filled in the morning and a...
From mile 0 to 410 the only place you won’t be able to hang is that 35 mile stretch. I imagine the last 76 miles is an easy hang also. Plenty trees to Durango.
I would go Denver to Durango or...
Thanks so much
This was exactly what I was looking for.
Leaving Durango late so trying to get closer to Natural Bridges for the morning.
Heading between the two places this afternoon. Was hoping somebody maybe had a quick spot I can pull in and setup in National forest or anywhere.
Exploring Utah for a really quick day while I’m...
The winds are just so incredibly awesome.
Keep hiking.
Well I didn’t have enough time to finish the trail. High elevations and cold rain 13/16 days slowed me down too much made it to Silverton 75 miles shy. But this will be an easy place to come back to...
Woah, cool site there. Never heard of that one.
I'll post updates here as I get into towns with cell service. Hitting the trail Thursday if all travel goes well.
I do have a small torso...
I should add that I’ve slept with my 40 top and 20 bottom in the lower 30’s and was fine. I know things can turn quickly in the Rockies so that’s why I’m having second thoughts with a 40 too quilt. ...
Leaving in two days.
Anyone hiked the trail this time of year and could tell me if I will be miserable with a 40 degree topquilt.
Bringing a 20 degree bottom quilt and have a 20 top. Last...
Nice.
How was the Colorado Trail part? I'll be doing that in two weeks.
Yes I’ll hammock the rest of the way. Carry a small sit pad that can double as sleeping pad if I can’t hang my hammock. Will just tough it out that night if needed.
I had absolutely no troubles...
I'll be flying out in two weeks to finish the Colorado Trail. I did Waterton Park to Twin Lakes in 2017. Hammocked all 10 nights on the trail.
Starting in Twin Lakes and taking Collegiate West...
I bought a simple shelf from Lowes and hung on wall. 2'x6" or something like that.
If only George Costanza could see this.
Have you hammocked every night so far?
Nice. Keep it up
Looks like a blast Shug.
Glad you enjoying retirement!!
Hang on
