As someone who struggles something fierce with sewing a straight line, I feel silly for not thinking of something like this.

That would be one whoopie sling. You'll need two for a hammock suspension.

Take your desired minimum length, double it, and add 2-3 feet. That will be for one whoopie sling.

So if you want it to adjust down to 6 feet, you'll need about 15ish +/- feet.

Reminds me of the hammocks from walmart. They use that thick rope and steel hooks a well.

I slept in a walmart hammock every night for about a year. Never failed on me.

I don't think 2" will have that big of an impact on the finished hammock. Just call it your "ultralight" hammock. :P

As it is currently, if I sewed the baffles to both shells, I'd have ~ 3" of baffle mesh extending past the ends of the inner (shorter) shell. I'm not sure what to do...

I used Boston's mod calculator. It adds to the length so that the ends of the baffles don't get squished.

I'm using mosquito netting for the baffles and they run lengthwise.

The elastic is going to need to be really tight to get the pad to conform to your body from under the hammock. Then you'll have to deal with the elastic pulling the edges of your hammock downward......

I wouldn't trust stitching in the body of a hammock. I'd be too worried about it compromising the material strength leaving you cold and bruised.
