FPG the Insulhammock would have been a great choice on this past hike especially considering it was 36.6F when we woke up. I just couldn't remember if I'd 'stacked' underquilts with the Bonefire so...
Mr.Mike I'm at work, and soon must sleepcrash. I'll try to get a weight sometime. Rough guess for AirShip + Pole is very close to 14.5 ounces. Suspension is more connected to the hammock...have to...
TallPaul I cannot remember even the name of the WB tarp she used=old age.
FIMB I'm glad you've made the conversion to sockdom :)
HTH (hightechhillilly) as far as I'm concerned the sock concept and...
OK finally got back around to some vids, actually 3 trips in one so its a bit long. For those interested in the continuing development of the HNO derived hammock socks
this vid:...
Thanks FIMB. It really taughtens up the ship. On the back side what was one flat panel to present to the wind is now beveled. Overall just another advancement of the art by HNO.
The AirShip and its variants are available via Hangnout. They are just crazy expensive due to the materials used and the labor involved. Thus
few people have taken the plunge. That and the...
Yes the AirShip now sports a pole-mod.
We're used pole mod for quite a while now in tarps.
The improvements are many=increased apparent room under the tarp portion of the hammock sock is a big...
With great excitement I announce to the hammock sock using world that the HNO derived AirShip has taken yet another leap in development:
...and soon, very soon, the HNO AirShip will be paired with the Rivendell 'Roan'; the first purpose built insulated-hammock just for the HNO hammock sock. The combination has 'made for each other'...
SUB, that ain't bad at all :)
EABAHSFTZA That's good!
Just to throw some more out:
pupae, cocoon, habitat, envelope, capsule (Poof likes cocoon) shell (hermit), chamber.
Just remember the original names Dirigible, Graf,...
90 degree experience was in the Dirigible and also in the Graf; two different hikes both in the summer.
Both of these socks were set up loosely in those temps, the SEEPs were fully in the down...
I am the OP. All my hammock socks were made by Hangnout.
The original Dirigible, the Graf, and the AirShip.
I don't know who has the most sock time via hammock but I'm quickly approaching 3 months...
That is one sharp looking sock! I love the color! Looking forward to your report.
Goretex good. 40 oz. painful (to me).
Would love to hear how you get along with it.
Goretex is pretty tuff too-that is an advantage over other materials.
72 nights now in a sock. I'm a believer :)
Pics/Vids please when done.
You'll love the MacIX. I used mine many a time; Spamburgler used on the Roan Higher Colder Hang this past January at 8F and 40k wind. It's just that when it gets warmer and the snow/ice turns to...
OK I'll do my best to show it up.
But there was a comment several posts up about the silnylon/DriDucks version.
I think HNO (you all know that is my short cut for Hangnout) has made several...
HA ! :) MAD that hurts me.
Yeah this trip coming up has several debuts.
The AirShip as mentioned above and a couple of us will be sporting
Zimmerbuilt packs specific to onebagging/hammocking....
Rumors of the AirShip? Not rumor anymore. I'll be using it in the Savage Gulf in 9 days.
cloudedice,
I'm waiting anxiously for any news on the AirShip because I hope to get 'winter' time it is and then progress with it into the spring. It shouldn't be long though before I can give it...
Awesome!
How is it you can show in 5 min's what I've been trying to show in a year and a half!
2sticks makes a sharp looking model....maybe in the next promo she can do the talking too! HA! Just...
Voivalin, each trip has been different for humidity, temps, hammocks used, and the topquilts and underquilts chosen. I think I'm up to either 34 or 36 nights in the socks not. I'm getting a good idea...
But what you'll love more than anything is an almost instant setup.
BarberMike,
glad you found us-the ones in the airships :)
You've probably already figured they are several completely breathable socks out there that require a tarp or to be used when its seriously...
you are in perfect sock territory and I think we in the southeast are in the worst except for what I experienced in Mendenhall which turned out to be an opportune test.
We never went into this...
Davigilante,
Just noticed something else that will be critical to consider.
You are out west where it is a dessert humidity wise compared to us in the east.
Many of the large condensation issues...
how about the 2stickSock!
Poof and I were pushing it by being right up against the creek...temp wise and humidity wise. I know it was 10F warmer just 50 feet up the hill.
Condensation is...
Thanks Mr.Mike, I could have gone on but didn't want to bore.
Per your request for an update.
We're just now getting to the the HNO series of socks in some cold temps. This past weekend we hit 26F in them.
As mentioned in this thread and others, these socks...
TheCoyote is mostly right. Hangnout designed the Dirigible and the Graf and built them. I'm just the lucky guy who has gotten to use them.
I can put it up this afternoon and snap some quick shots if you want or you can wait until we get back from next weeks trip and see it on video contrasted with the 1st gen Dirigible. From a distance...
The HNO Graf has arrived!
Just when you think something cannot get any better :)
We leave in 6 days for the C/O. I'll post up a vid of our trail experience
and the Graf's performance and ease of...
Just got word. The HNO Graf will be on the C/O Towpath in a couple of weeks. That will be 4-5 nights getting to know it. Anticipated weight is 3ish ounces lighter than the Dirigible and 3 ounces gets...
Kerflop, I'm with you man. This morning I was in a kayak coaching a long distance swimmer who's getting ready for a triathlon...I had the heat on in the car driving to
the lake and it was 68F.
When...
In my last trip vid (yes it's 13 minutes long), I think it was the part two of the Alaska trip, I show how the ends of the Dirigible clip/clamshell around the hammock...easy peasy and very fast IF...
Hotsprings and MAHAA are two I've always wanted to attend but am denied again this year; this time its all about honey. This coming weekend my bees must be robbed.
The next time my sock will be in...

and it goes for all the known hammock socks out there and it is this...stuff doesn't hit the ground.
So I imposed a weight penalty on my back by using a sock --though not a huge penalty considering...
you must have missed the tarp portion in the video.
The tarp allows plenty of room for two to get under and cook without swinging the hammock out of the way.
We've decided to cut down the tarp...
thanks man....I'm just hoping one of those 3 season is winter!
Really when its in the mid 80s and up to me it doesn't matter if I get a little wet but when its really cold being able to get the...
my first response was no.....but best to ask Hangnout about that since he actually uses his bridge hammocks.
Note that Warbonnet has recently released a hammock sock of their own that is...
Wisenber,
What did you think of using the SMA (shug moisture absorber) when in winter and the sock is fully battened down. I've got to try it when the time comes. Won't hurt and a 4x6 inch piece of...
I'm going to give it another six months to see how it does in the colder months. Reality is that warm breath hitting a cold surface even if breathable is going to creat condensate--there is no way...
and that is a mighty fine looking ORGANIZED garage.
I'm glad you've got it down in connecting the tarp to your suspension and not getting tarp sag. With the Dirigible there is sag, just part of...
3 in socks! That is a huge hint at progress :) Fingers AND toes crossed!
That is a great thought and point Cakes. I just PMed Wisenber to see if he is going to the BSF on the Spamburgler hike/hang. That would be a perfect opportunity to test the internal rain forest-not...
I never had the water problem of it running down the amsteel whoopie and into the hammock before the sock....but I did cut a 1/4 inch wide and 2 inch long piece of generic shamwow and tied it under...
