Can you do otherwise?
Do not bother!
Hanging is about getting away from it all!

Oh, and by the way. Have a look at his you-tube-channel.[I]

I realy love his spanish adventure.
Cheers Tjalling
Sorry guys, to show my appreciation I switch to Dutch;
Prachtig verslag. Het meest aangrijpende en mooiste verslag, dat ik ooit op deze site gezien heb.
Bedankt,
Tjalling
I am surprised by the amount of money you people have to pay for Gransfors Brusk. The price at webshops in the Netherlands for a mini is € 78,80 which is just over $ 100.
If you order from...
I can pick one up for 85 euro's (shop within walking distance) and send it to you. Make your own calculations; echange rates and shipping cots. I am willing to help you out, if it is interessting for...
In windy conditions I use these;

Fairly light (19 gram, 2/3 oz) but strong. They have a good hold in softer soil. Otherwise, I am happy with Ti...
Mini line locks work with the tiniest of cords. I love them. Forget prusicks and other knost. The bigger type will handle shockcord and paracord with no problem.
Well count me in, because I love Dutch gear ;)
Tjalling (dutchman)
I am in. If you are not Dutch, You are not much!
Tjalling,Dutch by definition!
The campingplaces you are looking for are provided by Staatsbosbeheer in the Netherlands. There are some near the Belgium border.
Have look at...
Hello from a northerly neighbor. You heard it from Bayoubomber; “but the Dutch are good people and really not far from you” :laugh:
And yes, we do camp together. Check out;

The instruction leaflet found at

shows how the creator (of line lok) suggest they shoud be...
Go for the mini line locks. But realize that 1.2 mm is on the edge of their specs.
Why bother about the weight of your lines. I use 1.5 mm dyneema with mini line locks. But my main weight saver is to put 1 liter of “Famous Grouse Whisky” into a Platy.
A picture paints a thousand words (I hope). In the diagram the arrows represent forces. The length is proportional to the size of the force (is size correct? I am not a native speaker). I could bore...
Sorry guys, according to this assumption I can lift myself of the ground by pulling my crotch upwards. Michael Jackson couldn't do that and no one can.
To hold the hammock all the forces necessary...
Oh dear. Any engineers available? I will comment with a force diagram when I have the opportunity. My employer expects me to do other things right now.
For now, I can assure that you need more than...
I would not trust paracord as suspension line. Its breaking strenght is to close to the actual tension. At a 30 degree angle it needs to hold your full weight. Would you dare to hang from a paracord...
Katherine's fame is international! Her skins are proudly being used in the Netherlands.
I cannot grasp the idea of this post. I think that cottage industry deserves full respect. In Europe we do not know a claim culture. Buying a faulty product is your own responsibility.
Besides...
If you are not extremely weight conscious, you can consider the use of a piece of webbing instead of the hook (sorry Dutch, anyway I am Dutch too).
Have a look at;

This discussion was about light weight toggles. Introducing biners 10 times as heavy is a bit of topic.
Back on track; In my opinion sawing carbon arrow shaft is a risk. The edges can release...
When using sawn carbon arrows, remember to bring tweezers. Carbon splinters are awful.
I voted Green. Not that I use biners, but all my equipment is OG or CB (coyote brown) :)
We use tree straps (some call them huggers) to spread the force of the suspension over a larger area. A width of 1 inch is considered as a minimum. In this solution the webbing spreads the force,...
Richtig grundliche Auflösungen. Very bushcrafty solutions. I started with para cord and knots. Now a days I use Lash-it and Dutch Flyz to fix my OES tarp. As tie outs I use 1.25 mm Dyneema and mini...
"Nooit meer slapen" W.F. Hermans. Sorry, this to trigger Dutch readers. Hermans is one of the greatest Dutch writers (the best in my opinoin). This book (1966) is translated in english "Beyond sleep"...
Here is another (earlier) example of a floating bed.

Not as comfortable but more spectecluar.
Wilkommen from a western neigbour.
Welcome from the Netherlands. If their are places for hanging in Denmark with fly fishing opportunities, I am always interested .
Cheers,
Tjalling
Tjalling is the name my mother wanted to give me but my father disagreed.
We are not done yet! A very warm welcome from a Dutchman who relies on Scottish anti-freeze beside US TQ and UQ in lower temperatures.
A warm welcome from across the other pond.
(Also a sneaky way to boast about Dutchmen giving names to certain parts of the US)

Perhaps we should rename this thread in Hammock Poetry and make it sticky!
Very nice, but is it clean? Double bonus I guess. :lol:
Pick yourself two trees
Do the same as Shug would do
Let it all hang out:laugh:
Don not were you live in Europe. But when you live in the Netehrlands you can buy dyneema in Leeuwarden. Also webshop service ...
Are we talking metaphors?
There is no need for more than full lenght quilts. I use a 2/3 HGquilt and did not have any problems at -20 C. You can see the setup and the circumstances here;...
First, the drawing is a made with MSWord and then converted into jpg!!
Secondly, you are quite right, when using UQ with channels they tend to sag. This can be solved by pulling the UQ center to...
Moving the attachments of the quilt closer together results in a tighter fit. That is the whole idea of thingies.

Mini line locks (the ones for sale in the HFshop) work great on thin line and can be adjusted with one hand, even with gloves.
My wife does not allow me to touch her thread injector. I do not have this ambition anyway. So I asked MountainGoat (Outdoortrailgear) to make me mesh snakes with pockets and drawstrings for my...
I use a "pseudo" thingie solution which does not involve any sewing. Simply a piece of webbing caught in the knot of the suspension and a loop and toggle connection. Worked for me with both HH...
+1. And may I add that the cost of this harmless addiction are much higher for hangers on the other side of the pond, who rely on US gear, due to shipping cost and import taxes!
How about an UQ?
Hello from across the little pond. Bought my first hammock from a Plymouth based shop; RVOPS.
The guyout lines are indeed very well secured by your stand. The pole acts like a bow. The stand can easily hold the “draw weight”. My question is; will a stake in the ground hold this vertical...
