See you folks soon!
- MacEntyre out.
What a beautiful place! Waterfalls, and the meandering river in those enchanting valleys in between. It amazes me that such spectacular drops are adjacent to such a placid plateaus. From halfway up...
It's pretty hard to miss. It will be the only thing under my truck.
Yes, we'll meet you at Conley.
If you don't want to wait for us, just head south down Rock Jock Trail and find us a camp site. If we see a car and no people at Conley, we'll go south on RJT.

Good mornin', RF!
- MacEntyre, too much to do today!
Two Dozen!
However, I might bring more... I'm thinking of making a cache at Old Conley on Sunday.
Ken, I'll leave my soft cooler underneath my truck at Spence.
I'll be comms cold after...
You can probably leave it on page 76...
Folks needs to gets their behonkuses into da woods now and be counted!
- MacEntyre
PM me if you want one. I'll have plenty of time on Sunday to buy them, as I cruise down the BRP to Linville. The one I have is marked $6 and was purchased recently.
- MacEntyre
Actually, parking a car on one side or the other is a gamble no matter what.. who knows where we will decide to go?
Who cares?
- MacEntyre
IIRC, Ken suggested hiking up to the east rim via the bridge, and Shug suggested spending Wed night on the east rim... just sayin'...
Stormcrow, is that AutoPager or SmartPager?
-...
...prolly just have coffee, will have eaten in camp already!
It saves Hedcase and me the trouble of either of these other choices:
1) making the same trek twice on Wednesday;
2) making the...
I'll be there Sunday afternoon. I'm going to hang in the first camp site south on Kistler on Sunday night. If you make it to Kistler Highway (County Line Road), you'll find me easily... dark blue...
If Hedcase and I do that, we'll be able to hang with the group on Wednesday night. Remember, Shug suggested hanging over there after our day hike on Wednesday.
EDIT: Shug, the Spence idea doesn't...
We should make an alky stove out of one!
I wish they made camo baby wipes...
You know, others will be arriving late. We should leave several spots open at Conley. Otherwise, someone will have to sit there all day Tuesday shuttling late arrivals.
Better take Ken's list of...
We'll have to remember to leave you a space after all the shuttling!
Certainly! I'll plan on being there about 9a. Now, I gotta figure out where Pinchin is... where's that map...
Not me... it clashes with me kilt.
BTW, I have it here on my desk a 35...
Hedcase and I plan to park at Old Conley, so we can depart at o'dark thirty Thursday am.
I'll be glad to help car-pool. My truck can hold four normal sized adults plus one small one, as well as...
Hawk-eye, here's the alcohol stove I'm bringing.
You may have been thinking of the other trip that has "Halloween" in the title:
"Halloween in The Sipsey"
- MacEntyre
Slowhike and I met the folks in the camp site adjacent to the one we'll be using... they had more stuff than a mule train could have carried down Conley Cove Trail! Tents, hammocks, large plastic...
I'll be glad to help set it up. Don't worry about a thing!
I'll bring the cooler that was on the back of the MMP that Hangin' Burrito will use. It's a large, soft sided nylon cooler,...
Ken,
Looks like I will not be able to provide a prototype MMP with a cooler attached. Last minute demand has all of my prototypes loaned out to prospective customers!
- MacEntyre
I like your DIY Overcover!
A well configured hammock always looks like a Norse sailing vessel... here's yours cropped and negative.
- MacEntyre
Shug, can we get a video of you balancing a Spetsnaz Shovel?
Stormcrow, I've got 200' of Amsteel to pick up at MAHHA for whoopie slings... you think that's enough to practice until I remember how?...
Er, just, um, nine. That's all...
I have been invited to a retreat at Camp Cheerio this weekend... just a few hills east of Stone Mountain. Looks like I'll be able to take the Blue Ridge Parkway to the Gorge on Sunday!
- MacEntyre
That was my first as well! In two weeks, I will have done six this year as well!
- MacEntyre
Costco had a sample cart serving Via today... like most instant coffee, it was not too good when it's not hot. Gotta serve it piping hot and fresh, not out of a styrofoam cup with a cover on it.
-...
When this thread started, we weren't sure if more than two or three folks could make it... even Shug was not certain. Now there could be 26 Rats hanging in the Gorge!
I hope there isn't...
Monday night we will be found somewhere south of Old Conley on Rock Jock Trail, hanging where we first find trees.
Stormcrow, are you saying we might have 25 people at this middle of the week hang?
Not bad at all... especially considering the demure audience. See attached picture of a couple from the crowd....
two more pics... Shug did a lot more than juggle red balls, but I had no spare batteries!
My daughter and I tried to watch the Hypnotist Comedian whose yellow banner hung at the back of the stage,...
My daughter and I made a big loop this weekend: Jamestown to Hendersonville to Brevard to Columbia and back to Jamestown. We spent Friday night at my sister's in Hville, had lunch with family in...
If it doesn't arrive in time, I'll have to expedite my MacTUQ (pronounced McTuck), a prototype-synthetic-top-cover-UQ-combo, formerly called a Banana Peel.
Low temps this week in Linville...
Now I'm the one waiting on insulation... sold my Heresy, SS and UQs, and ordered a Peapod. I'm hoping it will arrive early next week!
- MacEntyre
Hawk-eye & Ken, do you know if Louise' Rock House is open for breakfast on Monday morning?
Hedcase and I want to meet there at 0800 on Monday, with Hangin' Burrito and Running Feather, if they are...
Last May, I brought my throwing tomahawk and Spetsnaz shovel to Hot Springs. Stormcrow stopped by before beginning a section hike. We threw at a dead tree near BearPaw's hammock. Bearpaw broke out...
Who knows? I might throw up myself...
My daughter has already has something like the flu this fall.
Yes, since you will be there! I need revenge, after you beat me throwing my own shovel!
...
You thinking of going on Saturday?
Maybe my daughter would go with me...
- MacEntyre
I'd like to see that. I'm bringing the world's simplest alcohol stove.
There's Christmas lights in your store room!
- MacEntyre
I'll bring my Heresy Explorer (HH with #2 Bugnet mod and rings suspension) and my Nested MacKAQ. I'll also have my stock HH tarp over a Hammock Seat, set up for the cook.
Plus, Molly Mac Pack with...
Right, a little '54 Sharp's...
We'll have to trade stuff to have a real Rendevous.
With so many people, we're going to have to call this a Linville Gorge Rendevous!
Hedcase, do you need a local guide?
I could meet you at Conley on Sunday!
- MacEntyre
MacEntyre will be there Monday :D
[Didn't we do this Monday roll call already?]
Bring your Molly Mac Pack clone, Jerry!
That will make five people carrying, and one trying!
That timer is exactly 24 hours off...
I guess you're just a day late, Hawk-eye!
- MacEntyre
Shug, are you bringing any musical instruments?
I can't play the guitar well enough to bother, but if someone else will play it, I'll bring my Martin Backpacker.
- MacEntyre
Of course, but then you lose that nice fit between the Heinie pot and the coffee can.
I've packed the alcohol rig. Gotta tinker with the natural draft wood stove a bit more.
