"I think a couple of foot of woven daisy chain webbing and carabiners are better suited for garden-use."
This is what I was planning, it is cheaper too.
thank you!
Wonder if these would be strong enough.......
I will :) We didn't have to replace the sail, just the snorkel.
I will probably just do the hammock and tell them the usual safety stuff including bringing it in. I just thought this might be...
A jib snorkel protected our jib which takes a lot more force for a year before we had to replace it and it was made of cheap tarp (we inherited it with the boat).
Doesn't it usually? Straight down is no fun! -- oops, missed it was a somewhat zombie thread.
1) In sailing a jib snorkel is UV resistant tube that you cover the jib sail with so that you can leave the boat rigged without the sun destroying it. You zip it off when you want to use the boat...
Much easier to adjust it to be narrower than wider. Try it wider and see if you like it then cut it smaller if you don't.
FWIW I like wider hammocks.
got an update: "I wanted to let you know I setup the hammock for the first time yesterday. I went fishing with a friend along the Susquehanna, and found the perfect shaded spot right next to the...
I have a magnetic dish I got from harbour freight I just throw my pins towards it and it catches them. I also keep spare bobbins in it when I'm switching colours.
I have a thread stand for big...
Yay! We might have another convert! Muhahahah

My tree straps were sewn with regular all purpose gutterman, I used the stitch pattern that is labelled 33%. I have used them daily for six months and I am not a svelte person. My teenage son has...
Thank you!
What about hand sewing with a very fine needle and silk thread?
It has been delivered. I am at home recovering from dental surgery and the waiting to find out whether he liked it is killing me!
Go here and look about halfway down.

thanks everyone :)
I'm sending a secret santa gift (not my fault it is late, the original sender did not send so I offered to be a make-up Santa) of a hammock to someone near Binghampton. Can anyone suggest places so...
I joined an online community so I could be a santa to someone who's original santa didn't come through. He says he likes camping, backpacking and homemade things (among other stuff) and his...
I agree with the almost anything. See what I'm using with my new DL tablecloth until I can make some more toggles?

Noticed another one of our tablecloth hammocks has a rip in the body. Loosing confidence on these now.
It is about 1 ½" long going width ways, repairable?
...or down a wet tarp and wet guy line attached to metal spike.
::imagining lying peacefully in hammock when freak lightning bolt hits frame::
I used to sew cloth diapers and made my own pattern. I used old tshirts and cheap fabric to make some butt ugly but perfectly functional diapers while I was working out the kinks and refining my...
We used those from a local firm for our chicken coop. It has had my husband and son on top of it several times this summer while building it.
There is an OSM near where I live and he can tell from across the shop if you are sewing if you are near the end of the bobbin!
I'm sure that is a big part of it. But again, I have numerous times experienced fabric failing where a stitch line used to be and has been picked out.
I think that is what the display is showing though...?
4.0 is a really long stitch length..
haha Rev, you and I were typing the same things at the same time, only my husband came and asked about oldest son's college packing in the middle of mine.
Not sure but this is my usual trouble shooting...
1) turn off machine, unplug, wait a second and restart. I have a viking and sometimes she gets a little confused and needs a kick up the pants....
My guess is because the plies are larger in webbing than in regular fabric. I have seen fabric and webbing tear like a perforated piece of paper along the stitch line. I've also seen (admittedly...
yes, I made daisy chain straps and bought carabiners to make it easier for them. I have 1/8" amsteel continuous loops in triple sewn end channels. Good to know about the washer, thanks.
FYI one of my machines do not like organ needles, the rest are ok. My friend uses them and likes them but I stick with schmetz.
Also it seems like the webbing failed on the most part, not the stitching. There has to be a balance between making the stitching strong and not weakening the fabric of the webbing. If you use thick...
My take on it is as follows...
for making hammock gear (what we focus on here) and not climbing gear or tree gear where you are potentially tens or hundreds of feet above the ground, any stitch...
thanks for the help!
I am making a suspension, I don't plan to do a ridge line. I'm guessing this is going to be a backyard/next to pool hammock.
Good ideas, thanks!
glad you got a good 'un!
I want to put a use and caution tag on the hammock I'm making as a gift. The family has two very active teenage boys and a younger daughter. What would you include?
Something about laying on the...
could you put guy lines down each side instead?
I find in general with the larger double hemmers that I always have to have a hand in front of and behind the foot to keep it on track. I hate having a hand in front of and behind and generally only...
Are you working the (forget the right term) cover over the bury or trying to pull the bury through? I'm not trying to pull it through at all to start with, I'm trying to hold it in place while I...
I used to buy parts from an 'old singer guy' who had a shop locally. He said that many years ago when he was first married he sold singers. He said that he had a thick leather belt (when leather...
I bought the 90s
1) because although I'm not tall, I like to lie sideways with my legs completely in the hammock with room to spare
2) I trimmed about, hmm, 8-10" off one side (beware, grain was...
Don't know, narrow rolled hem, don't know (maybe free motion?? or cording??), don't know but is that green stuff rubbery? Maybe a button foot, zipper foot.
...and there are some 403s well within your price range
There isn't a huge amount of difference between the two.
I really like my singer 500 series, are there any of those available on ebay or locally that you like the look of, or 400 series? One reason is that they are easy to work on and easy to clean up. ...
