Check out the plans on the first post in this thread - they have plans for a gathered end with footbox. They use a 31 x 31 x 45 triangle.

You may be able to add a footbox yet. Cut out a right triangle and sew the two shorter sides to the hammock edge, starting half a foot or so from the foot end.

12' is plenty long. I use 10' and that's around the shortest comfortable length for most people. Can't help with the asymm.
