I bought the 12'. Now to wait on the it to ship. The waiting is the hardest part....
The complete suspension does not offer the beetle buckles with a strap longer than 8ft. I can buy spider/poly in 12 or 15 foot with a pair of dutch clips and then the beetles separate. Bit more...
I am worried about moving in the night. But I also worry about extra flappy fabric lol. I plan on getting a side car but will not get integrated just to keep things modular. Looking at the beetle...
Working out a purchase for a chameleon. Lots of options. Trying to sort out the asym vs sym on the bugnet/top cover. From what I gather the hammock is a sym hammock and using the asym top just...
Cleaning out some gear. I have the Handy Hammock system. Used a few times. Included hammock is green. Comes with instructions, hammock, stakes, carry bag. One small tear in fabric was repaired....
The best resource I found was the John Voight book. Nothing but GPS coordinates. It may be a bit outdated in a few areas though, namely Lusk Creek. All the coordinates are in UTM so you will have to...
Bummer, I have the next weekend off for 4 days, 14th-17th. Was looking around for a place to go, but I will be utilizing my...um tent. on the trip. Might have to roam around on Be safe out there.
I walked the section from Garden of the Gods to Lusk Creek Trailhead and back. I hope to do the whole thing someday. Water in One Horse Gap area is sparse. Fill up as you leave Herod at the pump some...
Had no idea your back was hurting Digitizer101. At the speed you were moving one could not tell. Saw you in the morning and then you were gone. We saw you across the valley once. I hike slow it...
Have the vids queued up to watch Skygzr. Looking forward to it. Here are my final vids

Cool thanks skygzr. I have not seen the youtube tags on any other forum before.
Thanks Gideon. I do like to make the videos. Sometimes they get a bit long.
How you do that? I tried the youtube tags and had no luck. Thanks for embedding it.
Gideon, Do you have the Trinity Malpais or the Trinity Tumalo? I am thinking the Malpais but not sure. On sale at GoLite right now. Sizes are scarce though. But 125 for tops and 60 for pants. not...
Thanks. Editing day 2 now. Hope to finish them up today or tomorrow.
Gideon, it was great meeting you. Good luck on your new job.
Here is my video of day one. Embedding is not working right for me. so here is the link. Great trip. Thanks again for everyone who...
I had Dri Duck tops and bottoms. Was wet all weekend. They also got a few holes not to mention the split down the seat of the pants. Will have to rethink for next time.
GPS showed about 31 miles in total. Massive elevation gains and losses. By far the toughest terrain I have hiked and the worst weather. Made for a great trip. Wife thinks I am an idiot. Attached...
Fantastic trip for sure. Glad I got to meet everyone. Appreciate the hiking partner Gideon. Thanks for sticking back with the slow poke.
Packed and bag is in the jeep. Hope to be there by 8 for sure. Leaving STL at 530. I have red jeep patriot. See ya'll there.
Interesting is good. I was wondering if there was a bridge at the trail or if is a scramble across. I suspect the water will be high. See if I brought my inflatable sleep pad I could surf down the...
NOAA says low of 38 on Friday, 60% chance of "precipitation" in the evening. Saturday looks a bit better at 30%. Gonna be wet on Friday though. Should be fun. Especially with that Tsunami :)
Snow???!!! Is Fronkey still coming? We can blame the snow on him. I usually carry 2.7 liters. Got two 1 liter bottles for purifying while I drink out a 700ml on my pack strap. so far seems to be...
At least the lows are getting higher :)
Scary thought. I'm bringing my down lol. Might even get cold enough to use it. Although friday looks like it may have excessive humidity :)
Wow I have been trying to cut the weight but I am at about 17.25 pounds as a base, about 6.5 on food. Figure I will be 30 total with water. Guess I need to start working on it more lol
No kidding. Had to add a hat and puffy jacket.
Bummer if you can't make it. Was looking forward to meeting you. Hope your back gets better.
I checked yesterday and it was 10%. Day before it was 30%. Hope the temps sta good and the % goes down.
I am hoping to make Taum Sauk by 8 on Friday. I plan the zero dark thirty route. Probably leave STL about 530. Will be a long day but it builds character right? I am debating on adding in my...
Seems like a lot of lightweights lol. Putting me to shame. Might have to pick some brains on what to lighten up. My wife was laughing at me for measuring out all my stuff. She loves the term "Gram...
I am pretty happy with it so far. Only used it once. I will have it along so you can check it out. Certainly beats my IX underquilt. You can rig the top quilts as underquilts per the EE guys. That...
I think the quality of the gear is pretty decent. It is my first down item. 20* with an extra ounce of down. Came out right at about 25 oz. Seems very warm so far. I have only used it a few times. ...
That is very light. I am not sure I will ever make that light. I was excited to drop a a pound or so switching to a nice top quilt form enlightened equipment. Saved a bunch of weight there.
I hope to get my base weight under 16 pounds if I can. Just started to put together some food. 7 pounds!!! Perhaps I eat too much lol.
Maybe he can be like the other Bear and drink the pee next time. Hammock Survival with Hairbear. I would watch that show lol.
Ha that sucks. I am certainly not coordinated to do a pee from the hammock. Have enough trouble stumbling around in the dark.
Woot, just want the doctor ordered, tough terrain. Been doing 8 milers to get back in shape. Should be a grand time. Looking forward to it.
Hope it is not too hot. Need to test out my 20* EE quilt.
Whoo Buddy that be the crack of dawn fo' sure. Be a short night but I think I can make that. 2 hour drive then 11 miles. Does a body good right? lol Thanks for organizing all this. Looking forward...
I am fairly certain I can make this one. What time on Friday is the meet at Taum Sauk Mt Parking lot? I am coming down from St Charles so need to figure driving. I have never been down in this area...
Nice trip report guys. I missed this one. I camp at that location quite often, probably camping there on Friday. Hope there is not the 5 inches of snow you guys got though, my little underquilt...
That is interesting. I have hung in a few parks without issues, although I never saw a ranger. I know in my county, St Charles, they will boot you out. No hanging anything from a tree, including...
I made one from Walmart tulle. 97 cents a yard. Super cheap. It hates velcro and will rip easy. but it works out fine.
Is there a number on the size of the group allowed? That might be a concern. Certainly be nice if we get some rain so they life that ban.
As far as I know I will make it.
Thanks for the response. Going to play with it a bit and see what I can't get together.
So as I am leaving my house to go to work, I happen to notice a package on the front porch. I can only guess that is my supplies. Be nice if the mail dude would ring the bell once an awhile, I could...
I just got a Bushcraft USA 10x12 Ultralight tarp. Thing is great. Weighs in at 1.39 pounds. The regular 10x10s they have are tested to be strong. Should check them out. Made in USA too.
Thanks for the info. Supplies have been ordered. Will post up some pics when I get done.
Is it possible to use some grosgrain to reinforce the openings and use the ripstop for the channels? I did this on a set of gaiters. Sew a small strip and then used a soldering iron burn a hole in...
