Back to the Original design, (sorry about that... ) I am thinking of keeping the arms on the bottom jacket and putting them inside out, covering the neck hole with them and giving extra insulation at...

The 3XL fits me normally good... The pants look funny, BUT.. They are functional.
I put velcro on each side to take up the slack and I am wearing sweats underneath the pants....

I am still debating on how to go about it, BUT.. I am 5'10" and two 3XLT will not fit my height, so.. I was thinking like pants, I tried putting my feet in the arms of the bottom jacket I unzipped...

I think you're right, after looking at mine, there's no way it would fit around the waist.

So how did you maintain the zipper on the extended portion of the vest side? does the extension itself...

Can't you just take the zipper out of the second jacket and sew it closed and use it for the connection for the first jacket?? Just a thought.
